As long as you didn’t get the big case here in Maine that should be starting soon

I'm doing Grand Jury, not Traverse Jury. So we don't sit in court and hear both sides; we just get a presentation by the state prosecutor and the officers involved with the case, to determine if the state has enough evidence to indict the person accused.

If anyone is looking for something really awesome and terrible at the same time to do, I recommend any of the distances of the Endurance society Infinitus races (they do from 8miles - 888k,around 560 miles) . Me and 3 of my idiot friends attempted the 100 mile race that started last Friday morning and ended Sunday morning. All of us DNF'd. Course was basically a rough figure 8 between 2 mountains. One an 8 mile loop, one a 20 mile loop; so slightly longer than a marathon length for a complete loop. 4000' total elevation gain per loop. It wasn't particularly steep except for summiting the peak on the 8 mile loop. Honestly it was much tougher than we were anticipating and we all DNF,D. 2 of us made 61 miles, one 77, and one 80 before our bodies gave up the ghost. Mainly sprains/ fractures due to almost entirely uneven trails of roots and rocks that never allowed a flat or full foot contact and subsequently spraining/ fracturing ankles and knees. Also generally loosing pretty much all the skin on the bottoms and sides of our feet from slogging though miles of muck in the lowlands/ swampy areas.

Course was beautiful and in the the middle of the White Mountain Natl forest in VT. Being out 10's of miles from the closest anything at 3am with overcast skies and the only light from your headlamp was pretty trippy, especially since you were hallucinating and generally beat. I don't feel so bad since 70 were signed up for the 100, 10 didn't start at all, after the first marathon loop about 40 dropped, and only 8 finished. Really brutal, terrible, and fucking awesome at the same time. And we only made it through part of Saturday. If we had held up a little better we would have been slogging overnight Sunday as well.

Not many pictures since we didn't take phones out with us. Fortunately one of the guys I did it with towed his camper up and we used it as a base camp at transition; which was good cause Thursday night, Friday night, and Saturday night there were rain/ wind storms and tenting would have sucked balls.

Going to try again next year after talking and getting advice from some of the veterans on gear, shoe sizing, pacing etc...

    4 idiots:FB_IMG_1559510070330.jpg

1 full marathon loop minus about 1/2 mile of me forgetting to start my watch and with about 30 minutes of transition time

Hard to tell from the pic but my right calf was full of blood/ swollen about 2x the left, right ankle and foot similarly swollen and jacked upIMG_1614.jpg20190602_140825.jpg

Sucks when you put in all that work then it’s technically still the DA’s choice to indict. Or you put in all that time and effort and they cop a plea for lesser charges.

Shrug. Checks and balances. It's annoying, but I understand the constitutional basis for it.

It was so awful, but in a fun way when you're slogging through something with a few other like minded idiots. I was also the furthest any of us have raced (power hiked) by far. Over 20 miles for me. We were not anticipating the toll the uneven ground/roots/ rocks would take on joints and feet. Around mile 50 every step felt like someone was smashing the bottom of your feet with a baseball bat. That was what really did us in. Capacity wise we were all fine. On the first marathon loop we ran flats/ downhills where possible. After that it was all power hiking with trekking poles. Just the beating your bodies take was was not something we were expecting.

Meanwhile I'm apprehensive of signing up for a ultra beast next year haha.

Ultra beast? This sounds like something I could be considered for, but I'm guessing for different reasons then intended.

Nah, it's not that bad. Still difficult but you'd be fine. Don't listen to all the hardos who think they're pro athletes trying to break world records. Power hike up hills, run downhills and maybe jog/ power walk flats. You typically need to keep like 28:00 min/ mile avg to finish an UB. Go out slow and keep a decent maintainable powerwalking pace and you can finish just fine.

by the way meant to ask, what hydration pack were you wearing for this past weekend? I need to get a new one and can't make up my damn mind

Nathan vaporair 2Liter. Get the large/ xl. The sm-med is really small. We've all been using the same one for years for all kinds of stuff and they've always been good.

Those are for the weak. Just carry one of these with you while you run the course:

On a semi-related note, I'm not sure how it happened but I'm signed up for a plane pull at the jetport on Saturday to benefit the Travis Mills foundation. I'm crossing my fingers that it'll be a single-engine Cessna and not a regional puddle-jumper (or anything bigger)

Is that the same as Petit jury?

I liked Grand Jury. Six paid weeks out of work, and was barely at the court house for more than a couple hours each day.
