Way too many hipsters & big money in the Bronx/Brooklyn for that level of degradation to happen in the near future.
    Who knows about LA though!

Storytime: a friend of the family used to delivery bottled water/soda to all the bodegas around the Jerome avenue Bronx area, early morning shift, late 80s/early 90s. He pulls around the corner to one of the deliveries, there's two cars blocking the road, another car overturned and on fire, and the sound of full auto gunfire from several areas  This was the moment he drove back to the office and resigned.

You're right. L.A. first. But New York is coming up with the same dumb ideas as L.A. so they will follow sooner or later.

Both my parents grew up in NYC, my mother's family goes back 4 generations.

The decline of the 5 boroughs started after WWII, when people left the city for the suburbs.

I think that trend ran its course, and the city will thrive until it's submerged under water...lol

I remember going to a local store with my dad from time to time using one of these.

My dad removed tubes from our pre transistor CRT TV and labeled each one, most times fixed the TV himself.

    Pride of accomplishment...

I had never seen anyone use a repairman or a contractor until I came to California in the 80's.

Yep, definitely no surveillance was happening during the cold war.

Although I am more worried about Facebook and Alexa (Amazon Wiretap) than I am the NSA.

I don't have a FB and don't know who Alexa is, so I guess I'm in the clear? lol

Not even close. Seems like everything with a microphone these days is somehow collecting info.

First off, why does my samsung "smart" tv need a microphone if it doesn't do voice commands?

I still carry a flip phone, does that count for something?

LOL, NSA went to snoop your phone, saw the model number, and was like "Nah, this dude ain't a threat."

Honestly, I have a prediction that flip phones are gonna make a comeback. The ability to manufacture flexible glass now will make it so you can have a much larger phone with a smaller footprint to fit in your pocket.
