I am wanting to put a Gentex Auto-dimming Rearview Mirror With Compass and Temperature on my son's 2015 Tacoma. I am seeing two models available, ADVGEN20A (or just GEN20A?) and the 20ADMCTG. They look the same and have the same functions, but one is significantly more expensive. Does anyone know the difference between the two?

    Thanks!

Just installed my Gentex auto-dimming mirror with compass and homelink 4 in my 2014 Tacoma OR. Can't believe I didn't do this sooner!!! Thanks to Bob for making the process so easy and way less expensive than anywhere else!!

How is Bob able to offer these mirrors at the discounted price?

It's a secret...I grow these things in mass quantities in a greenhouse & therefore can offer these prices! :p:D

Seriously though...I've been dealing in mirrors for over 20 years now. No joke...this is something that started as a side hobby, along with selling other various auto parts to be able to justify buying some goodies to fix up my truck. That started growing over the years and it turned into a nice little side business. All the while I was still working as a manufacturing accountant, but I've always enjoyed tinkering with cars & trucks all the way back to before I could even drive a car, so when God gave me the opportunity to leave my accounting job and focus solely on the mirror / automotive accessories business, I took up on it. That was June of 2017, so this has now been all I've been doing since then...so the business is still mainly interior rear view mirrors, it's now branched out into various other things like backup cameras, trailer cameras, display interfaces, seat heaters, and so on. So getting back to answering your question, it's because of the volume of mirrors we sell...some of those are brand new & we get them from various distributors, but the most popular mirrors are actually the used ones that we get from numerous wrecking yards throughout the US and Canada, with whom we've developed relationships going back 10+ years in some instances, so again, with the number of mirrors we sell each year, we buy them in large enough quantities to where we are able to offer them for fairly decent prices. Hope this helps!

Hi Bob, I have a home link mirror, belive it or not, I purchased it here many years ago. It is the type that has the garage door control with console lighting in the bottom of the mirror, and that console light has recently been out, I want to check on the bulb but have no idea how to remove the lens.
Could you advise me on this particular repair if you don't mind. Thanks for your diligent services.

The light on the bottom of the Homelink mirrors is an LED, not a light bulb, so unless you're good with soldering, it's not the easiest thing to replace. It's also extremely rare for the LED's to go out (in fact, I've never run into this, and I deal with a LOT of mirrors!). When you have a moment, email some pix of the mirror you have, making sure to show the light on the bottom, to me directly at rearviewmirrors@csinet.net and then I'll see if I can help get this figured out for you.

Has anyone mounted a 3rd gen mirror on their 2nd gen? I assume it’s plug and play?

Well...not exactly. 3rd gen trucks have mirrors with a 12 pin connector. 2nd gen trucks use a 14 pin connector (however...the mirror itself has a 12 pin connector & comes with a 12 to 14 pin adapter mounted on the mirror bracket). So to use a 3rd gen mirror on a 2nd gen truck that is prewired for the mirror, you would need a 12 to 14 pin adapter, and if you are planning on using a mirror with Homelink, keep in mind that some 2nd gen trucks are missing the constant hot wire in the mirror wiring harness. PM me if you need an adapter harness...we make these quite frequently.

Bob, I just bought a 2014 Tacoma Sport, rear view mirror attached directly to glass. I assume I am out of luck to be able to install a mirror with
the garage door opener buttons built it.

    Thank you!

You're definitely not out of luck - if your truck has the factory overhead console, you'll find a 14 pin / 3 wire connector tucked away, usually off to the front, sometimes to the side. If you want just autodim + Homelink, or autodim + compass + Homelink, we can get you set up with a mirror that will be completely plug & play. If you want a mirror with temperature display, then you will have to do a little wiring as you'll need to install the temp sensor at the front of the vehicle & then run a couple of wires into the cab of the truck & two wires from the mirror down to the driver's side under-dash area & splice them together. If your truck doesn't have the factory overhead console, then you won't find any factory mirror wiring, so on those, you would have to wire in the mirror on your own. So take a look at the original post in this thread & then send me an email at info@bobsmirrors.com & let me know which mirror you'd like for your truck.

This sounds like it could be a 341 that the guy is talking about....I have 2 of those 341s from you. Neither has issues with map light. Just wondering if 341s map lights are LED. They don’t appear to be and wondered about replacing with a led. Didn’t check that out when replacing arm with narrow wedge mount for the one that went into the Mazda.

They're all LED...Gentex uses LED's on the GNTX-341 homelink mirrors as well as the GNTX-208 and GNTX-221 mirrors.

Does anyone has pictures they can post of autodim + compass + homelink ? I wanted to see how the colors looked. If it was on a 2014 Tacoma would be even better.

    Thanks!

Above are 2 pictures. The first, go to end of red line in center of picture. I don't know what it is, but it attaches in same area (condenser in front of radiator) that user weendoggy details in his gentex_mirror.pdf to install compass/temperature rear view Genetex mirror. Is it possible this is the temperature monitor?

The second picture details the wire attached to object in first picture. This same wire now is in the 12:00 position above the wiring harness as it goes through the firewall. Is it possible this is the wire that would
go to compass/temperature rear view mirror?

If this would be temperature monitor with wiring already through firewall would be killer and too much to hope for.

I am seriously looking at installing a Genetex home link rear view mirror with compass/temperature features that Bobs Mirror vendor has been selling on this forum.

I have also tried to attach the PDF file referenced in first paragraph.

Any ideas and help would be greatly appreciated. (not trying to hijack thread)

    Thanks!!
