Why did your engine need to be replaced?

 

I have intentionally not added up what I've spent on the truck.

 

Too many miles in 100 degree weather without the inter cooler pump running. I have not dissected the old engine yet, but my current and unsupported theory is that the engine was pinging for a while under load. I didn't realize the inter cooler pump stopped on me! I think this lead to ring land failure, which lead to large consuption of oil. The rest is history. Someday when I have a few minutes I'm going to pull the heads and pan on my old one to see what's up with it...I still think it could be a great candidate for a forged lower end....

 

Don't ever do this. ever.

 

That would be highly disappointing. Makes me feel even better about having the redundancy of two pumps.

 

Sounds like a good reason to hook up a dummy light to have an indicator the pump is running.

Yeah, I've been looking into that. Possibly a flow switch down stream of the pump.

 

I dont think.you need a flow switch. Should be able to do a dummy light in series after the pump. If the pump motor works youll get voltage on the ground side still. Im assuming the motor usually goes out and not the impellers or something

 

I've got a spare led I can now put to use.

 

I’m hoping this is not my fate. My pump ran dry for months until my last road trip when the brethren on this thread pointed it out. Did your old engine seize or did you just replace it prophylactically when it stated to burn oil?

 

Something went bad, but everything was contained internally so I'm hopeful I can get time to diagnose what went south. Bad noises and it seized for a short bit, but freed up and restarted....Sounded awful wounded. Good news is the new (used) engine is running great. I check the pump weekly now. I've also been running the Ucon which has some guardian features that I'm keen on now.

 

If someone needs a pump I'll sell mine 20 bucks. Btw. I have a temp gauge on my lines. And the Johnson pump now. No cooling benifit with its incase anyone wonders.

 

How did you splice into the hose lines. I can’t seem to find a thermometer fitting that’s the correct size.

 

Autometer makes a brass fitting. It's about 40 bucks. Maybe a cowboy solution would be cheaper but I bought one
Jegs has them.

 

So far I've learned post intercooler temps are 10* above ambient consistent .

That's outstanding! My Shelby is pushing a max of ~15lbs of boost, but her IAT2 runs pretty consistently ~30* above ambient, even with an upgraded dual-fan, triple-pass H/E.

 

What happened?
