Unless you put in an aftermarket charging system, it’s not going to happen. What most people do is throw it on a charger once a month or so to top it off.

If you don’t, it’s not a big deal, it just won’t last quite as long. Think 5 years instead of 5.5.

You’re not wrong. I’ve actually been blessed to be able to study in person two different 550 chassis and drive - not in anger - a 718 RSK which is what they later evolved into. Brilliant machines that until you wrap your head around trailing throttle oversteer will scare the crap out of you. I watched a test driver spin a 550 four times before he gently peddled it back to the pits and surrendered.

At one time I had planned to commission a replica Pre A 356 coupe from an outfit in California and take it to track days and amateur club racing but in my declining physical condition I don’t reckon I could do five laps fighting a rear engine car without power steering. During a trip west I stopped at a replica manufacturer to look at their coupes and while they were fantastic I decided to abandon the race car plans which gave hope to a Speedster replica instead which is a plan my son completely embraces. Here’s a video of one of their customers cars with a surprise twist and some slick modern upgrades.

I just throw mine on a battery tender from time to time (mostly when I think of it or my truck won’t be moving for a while). I’d much rather not mess with the factory electrical and cause myself problems for no real gain.

Turns out the mystery knocker at 9:30 was the AT&T guy, there to fix my internet two days ahead of schedule and unannounced before arriving. Apparently my line had got cut...again...after the same issue was repaired a month or so back.

You can just get the pigtail with the rings that go on the terminal, then it’s just a SAE connection to plug in

I wouldn't need a regulator or anything to tell it to shut off once the battery is fully charged?

The battery tenders do that automatically. It charges up, then switches to float / maintain.
