CRAIGSLIST Tires Advice Needed

I was scanning thru CRAIGSLIST in my area and came across a seller who has for sale 4 sets of New MICHELIN Defenders P245/75/16 size for $425 cash per 4 tires. That's about $106.25 per tire cash and carry, this seems to be pretty unusual situation since I GOOGLE mapped the area of the seller which is in a major city about 1 hour 40 minute drive from me which ended up as a locked up not operating kiddie care place in the city?,not too bad since these same tires go new for at least $175 a tire plus tax. Any red flags should I be looking for here like the tires themselves might be defective or even stolen or could it be the Craigslist killer seems like its too good to be true, opinions wanted. the seller does show all 4 sets pictured and they still have the new tire info stickers on the treads and look like 4 new sets of MICHELIN Defenders how these ended up with the seller in a sketchy part of the big city I don't know, but sent an email to seller on how he came upon these tires. whats the consensus I sure need some new tires this deal sounds too good to be true tho.

where the hell does someone get 4 brand new sets of MICHELIN Defenders from that's not a tire Dealer? and why sell them below the going price?

 

They could be stolen, no way to be sure. I would have the guy meet you in a place you suggest. If he insists on metting you at his place or something, just pass man. Not worth getting robbed to save like 200 bucks

 

when I GOOGLE the location there is a auto repair shop up the street, my concern is could they be defective tires somehow where they cannot sell them mainstream way? or possibly stolen its very strange to see these premier tires 4 sets for sale new for this price

 

Maybe they came on a vehicle he purchased and he doesn't want them, so he's selling them for cheap to get rid of them? People sell brand new tire take offs for cheap all the time on here

 

As general rule with Craigslist (or any transaction where you're meeting someone you don't know), avoid doing it at your house or their house if possible. Meet in a neutral location, grocery store parking lot or even the local police station parking lot if you're being really cautious.

 

Know those pickup trucks that have racks with stacks of tires in the bed. Well one of then stopped for a burger few days ago.

 

these are brand new never mounted with the new stickers still on the treads, im concerned they could be defective, I could search to see if Michelin had any defective tires in that size for recalls, it should show up on the interwebs

 

or they could be defective throwaways they cant legitimately sell?

 

Or they could be retreads and dude is running a clever racket?

 

when I zoom the garage down the street from the address, it has a sign on the front says Pentecostal Sabbath Keeping Church. are these the folks who have snakes wrapped around them a the Sunday sermons and writh around on the floor too?

I don't know I sent the seller an email asking how he came into possession of them no return message yet

Send him another message asking how many more sets he thinks he can get.

 

does seem very fishy, those tires usually fly out the door for those prices, maybe that's what they hope, get rid of the evidence
