    Hi all.
My 2002 developed a strange catch in the brake pedal travel. Normally when you start it up and push the brake pedal, it goes down a certain distance. Intermittently, when I push the pedal it just stops after an inch or so. If you pump the brakes and push you feel/hear a "clunk" and then the pedal makes its normal travel? No leaks, warning lights. The brakes are worn but not 100% gone. Any ideas where to look first? Thanks Mike

Mine did this exact thing after a brake job, it felt like the pedal was catching on something. It passed the booster test so I knew that wasnt the issue. I traced it back to while I was swapping pads, I couldnt get one of the pistons to retract, and used a lot of force to get it in. I think the issue was that stubborn caliper piston still binding a little while it was moving, as you could hear an audible squeak coming from that caliper if you pressed the brakes while stopped. The problem went away after I drove it for a week. I bled the brakes every night for a week just to be sure the issue was gone. You may wanna do a brake job just to be sure nothing is seizing up.

Thanks. For some reason , its like you can feel it in the pedal travel, like its in the pedal or close.

Yup, like press a bit, stop, keeps going. I know the feeling. Wasnt spongy neither. Something might be binding somewhere down the line.

First check brake pedal assembly. Make sure nothing is catching. Then lightly apply emergency brakes. Push down on pedal. If still feeling catch it’s in the front calipers.
