I've seen people miss-install belts causing them to fray short early. Not saying you installed it wrong, Kurt. Did you check the pulleys with the belt off to see if they're making noise or binding?

 

yep, and installed per spec. The pullies all turned for me, but by hand, felt nothing wrong. Like I said, put a marker on them, and they all go when I am watching. Many times I heard that little clunk, and went to look, turned it back on, and everything moving. So, at load RPM, a pully is failing. Like I said - did it a month ago or more, and was looking at it last week.

Definitely sounds like something is getting hung up. I agree, best to replace them all while its apart. Really hoping to hear some good news from you tomorrow on this buddy

 

If you could just get it to duplicate, you could user a long screwdriver or rod to amplify the noise and narrow it down.

All of them will go tomorrow. They are normally "90K" repair or replace items. I consider it another part of the 200K project.

You betch'a! I was hoping the clunk was just a very old belt, and with the new one I didn't hear it after the replace. Until I parked it again. And you cannot hear anything when driving, and I have had the air and audio off to check the sound work.
(It doesn't cut any road noise when you insulate the doors, but cheap stereo sounds better! Good stereo would sound Great I suppose!)

Bearings must just lock up on one of the pullies at higher RPM.

 

my step dad's Ford F-150 kept on throwing the belt and I come to find out that it was the power steering pump had a little bit of wobble in the pulley

Has anybody run a set of underdrive pulleys on a Tacoma does it make a difference

 

Waste of money chasing power without forced induction on a taco.

 

Has NOT thrown the belt. It's on perfectly. Anyway, they better have the parts if they want my money.

 

I almost did some of that trail on Sunday but decided to go south. Put me done as a maybe.
