Hondo Garage's New Thing

Does anyone have the DIY mod for locking the pop top? I’d hate for someone to mess with it and it crashes into the parking garage ceiling.

 

I'm tempted to try a pair of these. They could be slipped under the opening slip latch lever to keep it from moving to the open position.

Anyone running a proper long travel rear setup? With a gfc?

Been browsing this thread for a year or more now and I’ve finally signed up. Our GFC should be going into production any day now, but as an F-150 owner I hide in the shadows...

Your post brought me out rajacat. I don’t suppose you could show some photos/measurements of the inside of your GFC? Specifically interested in how it affixes to the bedrail and the how much distance it needs. Thanks

If it’s completed in time we’ll be heading out for a month or two as soon as we pick it up so I want as much ready as possible! If it’s not, we’re buying a RTT for the trip...

 

The only "problem" I imagine would be that the rear shocks will be going through your bed for long travel which obviously is going to create alot of dust issues. This would be the same problem presented to anyone who wants to put shocks through the bed with any camper shell. I have thought about it, and considered having some aluminum or fiberglass covers that seal the holes from the undercarriage made, but its just not worth it for me. FWIW I have a TC SUA with the HD springs (no shocks through bed) and a heavy shell and I have been fully loaded for camping along with a 17ft fishing boat on hitch and Im still not riding on bumps. With just a normal camping setup I have plenty of travel to keep me happy on some shitty NV roads.

 

Is your F150 a crewcab or supercab? Post a photo. I'll put a tape on the bed rail clamp downs. I suspect that the spacing on the 4 clamps will differ according to bed length. Mines a supercab. 6'-6" bed.

The very light grey cabinets are stage one of the camper build out. It still needs some work. I plan to have a little removable galley module, some more cubicles up against the cab, a Lagun Table Mount and some sort of reasonably comfortable seat.

That would be awesome thanks, also how far they stick out. Is the design similar to the ones seen on the Tacoma, that stick out quite a way relative to tonneau covers etc or different?

I’m also doing a similar layout to yours, seat on left and back, then cabinet/worktop/fridge on the right. Separate modular units.

 

Could someone with a GFC on a Tacoma 3rd gen DCSB measure the locations where the space frame brackets connect to the passenger side bed rails. Please take measurements from the cab wall of the bed to the centerline of each of the space frame brackets. Please include a measurement of the width of the brackets. Thanks.

 

Finally in production!

Does anyone have recent data points on how long it’s taking to complete them once they go production? They say 8-12 weeks so I’m hoping I can pick it up during a Labor Day trip but I’m not sure if they’ve been keeping up with that timeline.

 

If it says "In Production" then the time frame is 6-8 weeks. It was 8-12 weeks after it’s been marked as Ready For Production. Mine went "In Production" today.

Here is what my original email said when I made payment:
Hello,


I just wanted to let you know that I have received your final payment and have let the shop know that your camper is now Ready For Production!

What Does This Mean?
This means that we have ordered all the materials to make your camper and the shop can start your build as soon as everything is in place. You’re probably wondering when that will be. Though we can’t say exactly, the shop usually starts cutting and welding parts about 8-12 weeks after it’s been marked as Ready For Production. Keep in mind this is a rough estimate and the shop doesn’t always build in the exact order in the build queue. When they start your build the status on the GFC Leaderboard will change from Ready For Production to In Production. At that point it’s about a 6-8 week process from start to finish. When your camper is complete, I’ll be contacting you to confirm delivery method and location.

Thanks I just checked and mine said the same thing. I was thinking the 6-8 weeks was going from “ready for production” to “ In production”.
