Simple way to look at this whole thing whether it be sports, LEO, fire fighter, etc, etc.

PRACTICE LIKE YOU PLAY. Plain and simple. You start taking shortcuts in anything while preparing for something and it will reflect your performance when it is actually suppose to really matter.

 

like you missing frisbee game after frisbee game and still being terrible at it

 

Can’t really hit anyone in the NFL now, so it seems like they are practicing like they are supposed to play.....

 

To be completely fair though, none of our training completely mimics combat because that would induce injuries for no reason. No one wants gunshot wounds from a training exercise.

Brain injuries are the equivalent of gunshot wounds for football players in this case.

 

I think that they should definitely learn to play, however similar to boxers and fighters, they should coach players to hold back when running drills against a team member.

I remember getting my head rocked way too many times just in practice because some idiot wants to ear hole me or even when the coach says just run the drill for memory and i'm like cool then this idiot tries to push me back 10 foot so now i'm off guard and who's the coach yelling at, the dummy who doesn't understand what doing a run through means.

 

I need some bad guys to shoot back at me while shooting at the human shaped target i guess.

I dont see a need to have anyone do anything that will harm them. People do what they have to to get to where they want to be. If there is a safer way that will get the same results I am all for it.
Some coaches have their players do stupid stuff just to say it will make them tough.

do we need firefighters to practice/learn on real life fires now instead of simulated? that'd be the only real practice.

 

They do real life burns all time for practice.

 

You are aware they do practice with real fires, right?

 

but not with real people about to die or passed out in the house they have to rescue.

they are scheduled and planned.

The whole setups they practice on are not REAL, yes the fire is real, the scenario is not.

But the actual "risk factor" is still there. They may be controlled or planned but there are still dummies placed throughout the structure that they have to carry out. The structure still burns and has the potential to collapse during training. There have actually been multiple injuries and some deaths while training as well.

 

They are legitimate structure fires though. And they do everything including retrieving “bodies” from inside. It’s obviously lower stakes but still.

 

Well i don't consider the fires they start on old houses needing demolished simulated.. fire is fire lol

Idk where you live in Huntsville, but it's not uncommon around certain parts of Chilton County for someone to donate old houses to fire departments for training and demolishing.

The risk of the house falling on them I guess is still there.

Also i didn't refresh to see this had already been said numerous times lol

 

then they aren't legit practicing how it will be when it really happens.

until they have an actual person screaming or burning or dying and not a dummy it's not real.

just like Tanner said police should have real enemies shooting back at them while they are practicing shooting.

this is all per y'alls logic of the NFL better practice exactly how they play in the games.
