Forum: Now that I have retired, I would like to do more skiing.
My 07 is 2wd and good cond.
I want to be able to spend the night at Lake Tahoe so I can ski the next day.
No interest in fighting the snow w/chains or 4wd. lol

    I'm thinking a Leer cap w/Win-doors?
A 400w power station should keep an elect blanket warm all night.
A foam matress and a few extra blankets will help.

    What else would be helpful?

    TIA

    R

Some sort of power brick like you said to keep a thermal blanket going

leer cap with windoors would work. Lots of ski bums around SLC have a similar setup. Maybe also pick up some blackout curtains for a little privacy.

I have a pair of Lumenaid lanterns that work well for illuminating my RTT and pack down to nothing. Plenty of light to read a book by.

    Good sleeping pad for insulation.

One of those green coleman stoves to make yourself some breakfast burritos pre-ski.

A decent cooler for Apres beers.

A ski rack for your planks.

I know you said you don't want to fuss with 4wd or chains, but I would strongly urge you to have some sort of traction aid. I pull people out of the canyon ditches here in UT all the time come ski season.

Lastly: Friends who ski as well!

    Traction aid as Gunshot said

I would also look into a dual battery setup. If you are lone wolfing it, that would be priority.

Or group 31 deep cycle and something like a NOCO jump pack as a backup works plenty well for me, esp if you aren't spending days at a time in the same place.

I have chains, but don't like to use them.
lake Tahoe has a major Hwy, usually open. lol
No dual batts, but extra power for blanket.

The pic looks very familiar! Eek

Good idea. Jump pack with a 27F battery would be junk. Ask me how I know...

To reiterate the traction aid thing, I know going uop the cottonwoods and sometimes Provo/Parley's canyons, you are required to have 4x4 or chains. Its a ticketable offense and they turn you around. Hate for you to get stuck somewhere and not able to be allowed to drive home, or walk away with a hefty fine.

Yep dual batteries and a truck disconnect. All though the loss factor is fairly low on an inverter you still have to figure the overall power usage over time, 8 hours of 400 watts is 30 amps.

Yeah, I totally hate dealing with chains as well. I'm glad you at least have a set.

    Brighton spring skiing!
