2007 Tacoma vs 2012 Tacoma

Yeah, Technology and gas mileage really brings cars/trucks down a lot of the time.

 

On the flip side I do love the look of the 3rd gen. But the issues seem to pile up day by day on them. And most of it is stuff that shouldn’t even be an issue on any car or truck for that matter. I’m really curious to see what they do with the next gen of tundra. Which all those rumors of new engine choices and better gas mileage. I’m interested

 

One other thing to think about, is if you want the 6’ bed (2012) or 5’ bed (2007).
Also it looks like the 2007 is only $1000 less, but is also has 13k less miles than the 2012.

I’d have a look in person at each truck if you can, and see which one looks less used, and then go from there.
Or decide on a bed length and choose that way !

 

Yes! I ended up getting the 6 foot bed because although I don’t have too much use for the bed, the 5 foot was just un-usably small. Although I do think the short bed looks better for a smaller truck

 

It’s a crazy world now days with the bronco coming back and the new micro bus. Never can really know what’s up everyone’s sleeve. Haha

 

It’s a Tacoma, you can’t go wrong with either or & won’t have any issues. 2012-2015 look better, nothing left to discuss

 

I’ve seen the 2012 in person and it looks like someone used it as a freeway car and nothing else. This weekend I am meeting the guy with the 2007. On bed size the 5’ I think looks better more of an aggressive look but 6’ is definitely much more useful.

 

Both are TRD packages. Nicer interior and Suspension in both.

07 is a TRD OffRoad. If true, it’ll have a rear locking differential.

12 is a TRD Sport. Does not have a locking differential but has cosmetic hoodscoop. Also has 12+ front end cosmetic redesign, which most favor.

 

20k for that 07 is way too much. Miles are high, cheap headlights & cheap wheels. I’d personally steer away from that one & find something worth taking out a loan or paying 20k cash for

2012 will also have traction control and a back up camera. I don't think the 07 will have either. Probably not a deal breaker either way but it is something to consider.

I’d put a little more money in the budget and try to find a truck with less mileage.

 

x2...OP, both are nice trucks but I wouldn't pay $21k for a truck with 128K/150K miles. Buy a lower mileage Tacoma 4WD in stock form and build it up to your liking. I try to avoid buying one lifted if I don't know if it was done correctly or with quality parts.

 

Just for a point of reference, two months ago I bought a stock 2010 4x4 DCLB SR5, paid a premium price at about $20,000, but was willing to do so as it was from Texas, absolutely spotless and only had 49,XXX miles.

 

The problem with that is the market around me for Tacomas is much more expensive than any other place, if you find one below 50k miles it is probably no older than 2014 and selling for $28k-32k. People buy Tacomas and run them forever where I live. Plus Toyotas always run for a long time so I am not to worried about it.

 

What you said. Just picked up a very nice 2013. May actually get another one for myself. Prices in Cali. Are pricey.

 

I'm not sure I'm crazy about the big mouth bass look. I vote for the 07

 

May not be a deal breaker, but the 12 has the extra blank switch locations below the climate controls. My 07 TRD only had 2 blank location to left of steering wheel which may or may not be enough for your needs. Roof light, ditch lights, camp light, reverse light, compressor switch....adds up quickly and got me wishing the 07 had those extra slots.
