This is the only place I would let customize my Tacoma. I have been onsite to this place and they lift NEW trucks for dealerships before being sold. They are sold with warranty. This place is great and they have a deal with Toyota Corporation to do the work. Check them out.

I buy cars and pay them off and keep them. I traded in a 2009 Tacoma and another car, almost paid off, for a 2013 Tacoma TRD Sport, and drove away brand new $30k truck paid off and $0 note.

Oh Hell no ......I am too much onto the latest and greatest to keep any vehicle over three or four years....sometimes two years..one time I traded within 6 months. We can afford it so we do it.

Sometimes the lastest and greatest was not such a good thing.... the 2016 Tacoma.

I too like the latest and greatest. The Toyota list in my closing is just that, only my Toyota. My closing in the Camaro6g is this....

All bought, no lease. The ZL1 was paid off in 18 months.

Leasing is pure waste of money.

Bringing it back to the point the OP was trying to make...I think some people are willing to pay that extra amount because
    1) They don't know any better what the cost is (so laziness)
    or
    2) You can buy this stuff and throw it into the financing verse buying aftermarket where you essentially need the cash saved up, and some may not have the ability to save that amount.
^Not that that's smart but I can understand

Leasing is a great opportunity to have a new car all the time. Even in your example it’s not too expensive. Assume 10 years of ownership you pay about 8500 more if you get the same lease rate for all three future leases as today’s. This may be offset by maintenance or low miles etc.

Hard to lease a Taco because if my budget had that 8500 extra going in, I’d blow that on mods instead!

People that buy trucks like the one the OP posted are usually those with bad credit that don't have the money to put into upgrades. They will be hit with high interest rates and the truck will be repoed in less than a year.

Thanks. I had some good times in the other rides, but I am sticking with what I have for awhile. Thinking of adding to the ZL1 some Kooks headers, Green Cats, Tony Momo TB, RotoFab Intake and maybe some Cat back system. Still in research mode.

MY local dealership is aggressively offering me 3.5k less than I paid new for my 16' TRDOR AC. It has low miles and they have done all the services, and they can make more points on a used truck. At the end of it i'll have the same payment but for two more years.
while not interested in trading my apple for an apple I am interested in restarting toyota care and my warranty + I will need new tires soon and new trucks come with new tires these days. I have the chance for them to sell me an incoming DCLB with the XP Predator "upgrade" package... the only parts of the XP kit I even like are the pro wheels and duratracs and while those don't justify the cost so i am using it as a negotiation point. I wont do the deal if that stuff isnt discounted because I don't NEED to.

I just think these dealership bolt ons are good bargaining chips and they are easier to negotiate when they are already bolted on VS asking them to add them.

I know we pay more to lease and buy every three years. But that is one of my retirement benefits from scrimping and saving to retire early.
We don't have to save anymore (although we don't spend all of our monthly income), nor will we ever spend all of what we have saved. So I blow money on vehicles. Resale means little to me anymore. I am glad I don't have to negotiate for hours on a purchase. I paid MSRP for the Ranger because I had to go 200 miles to find what I wanted exactly without ordering and wanted to make a quick deal. So I offered MSRP out the door. No sales tax here, Only a "$500 Road fee" so they did well and I was happy. Worth it.
I do negotiate lease terms though because it's basically a rental.

    I had a 2008 Tacoma, then a 2015 which I traded (unfortunately) for the 2016,

I still favor Tacomas but not in their current configuration, I'll wait for a drive train I don't have to apply a "tune" to and interior state of the art tech and safety items.

Leasing IS a waste of money for those who cannot and should not waste money.

For us, it's a great deal and worth the lease payment. We can lease for half of what a purchase would cost with no money down

My days of keeping vehicles for more than three years are over. We saved enough during our working years to be foolish now in our fifties. We are doing our part to support the economy LOL.

Buying domestic cars is also a colossal waste of money, But people do it everyday

My 2013 Tacoma TRD Sport I paid in $30k for in 2013 with no payment. Last year when I got rid of it, I got $23k for it. It cost me $7000 for 5 years of use. Never in shop, changed my own oil for almost nothing. So it cost me $1400 a YEAR. Yes, that is just a lot worse then leasing.
