I've driven both a 2019 taco ( various trims) and a new jlu Rubicon. the interior on the Rubicon is years ahead of the Tacoma when it comes to comfort and tech. im also 6 foot 3, ruby to me felt more spacious.

I also find the interior very comfy and up to date. Did 2 trips already this year from SC to Ohio and no issues. I'm 6'1.

The drivers seat has a lever like a barber's chair that raises and lowers it. Lumbar support is great.
The only complaint that I have is there's no dead pedal to rest your left foot on.
However, a few aftermarket companies make one.

I owned 2 JK’s with the 3.6 with no issues. I actually regret going back to a Tacoma now. But am not gonna bash the Tacoma either. If you really wanna get into wheeling the Jeep is far superior and much cheaper to mod into a trail monster if desired. I am waiting for the new Bronco to show up before making another change. OP, get the Jeep if you aren't using the truck bed for hauling stuff! If you find you aren't happy the re-sale is fantastic and quality mods actually added value to both of mine at trade time.

You can disable the ESS in the new JL by removing one of the 2 hood-is-open pin sensors......but you didn’t hear that from me

The wavy doors are due to FCA using aluminum instead of steel. Check out a newer aluminum skinned F150 and you will notice the same thing.

LMAO:rofl:I remember the death wobble on the Jeeps. Breaking news nationwide and a huge safety concern.

Interesting. I have driven both as well and found the opposite. Now that is saying that I have a TRD OR so if you have an SR Tacoma, I could totally see where you would think the Rubicon is superior. I'm sure if you compare the tech and comfort of a Rubicon to a standard Wrangler, you would feel the same. The only thing I liked about the Rubicon was the sway bar disconnect. That is a nice feature to have with the press of a button.

The 3.6 did have head issues when it first came out in 2012, but was quickly addressed by FCA by issuing a recall on that first batch, and fixing it going forward.

I can't speak about long term durability between the Tacoma 3.5 and the Jeep 3.6, but Wrangler has Tacoma beat in terms of engine response, drivability, power and refinement. And the 8-speed automatic is an absolute gem.

That’s a well documented issue with solid axles in general when they are poorly modified.

I never had an issue with death wobble. But I like to take good care of my vehicles, buy good tires, quality wheels and suspension upgrades.

On the other hand, I am surprised at home many alignment issues keep popping up on TW.

I was pretty shocked that the new JL kept the solid front axle. The best choice for off roading but adding larger tires and wheels than the engineers designed always upsets the apple cart.

I haven't heard of any 3rd gen Taco engine grenading at any mileage, and its been 3 years in production:woot:

It is quite telling TRD Pro barely scratches 50% on the poll, considering this is a Tacoma forum.

I currently have a 2018 JLUR and a 2019 TRD OR DCB. I have owned multiple other Jeeps multiple JK's and others. This is my first Taco. I'm just shy of under 1600 miles on the Taco so I won't go into an off road comparison of the 2 but will with everyday driving.

The new JL is completely different than the JK and I like it a lot, they have refined it very nicely. IMO the jeep has a better interior overall, now the Taco back seat probably wins over the Jeep. Interior creature comforts Jeep wins hands down the Alpine system is night and day compared the JBL system and the Jeep comes with a heated steering wheel (I know, but I like it) Apple and Android are standard and I like UConnect better then what Toyota Offers. As for as mpg it's pretty much a wash a to me the Jeep is averaging around 17.8mpg and the tacoma is right around the same (again just 1600 miles). The Taco on the highway does a little better but not enough for me to be worried. I have not had any issues with the Jeep at all as far a mechanical, I'm about to schedule the Taco an appointment because I'm getting vibrations when breaking (there is a couple other nit picky things I could bring up as well). The big question is do you need a truck a bed or not, I have always owned full size trucks and it has been a new experience owning a mid size for me. If you are buying a jeep are you getting a soft top or hard top. Personally one of the reasons I buy jeeps is for the soft top and there isn't anything that compares to it, but there will be slightly more noise on road trips and it's different compared to having a solid top. Accessories I mean there are more then enough for both, this is the reason I went with a Tacoma, I want to build an overland vehicle needed a truck bed. Now the Jeep does come stock with 285/70/17 KO2's on it and is highly capable off-road off the lot. I have never been turned down for anything at Jeep dealer for being lifted or modified and you can order it how you want it (not getting stuck with TSS etc...).

In the end I like both of them if I had to choose and having a truck bed wasn't something I needed/ wanted (I personally think a truck is better for overland trips) I would probably choose the JLUR. There could be mechanical issues in the future but that is also true of the Tacoma, I mean the 3rd gens have had from what I have seen more issue than previous models. As far as Jeep its a newer model as well but hey that's what warranties are for it you are worried. I went with the Taco over the Gladiator based on Price (If I didn't have the JLUR I would have a Gladiator) But the Taco is going to be a fun build and I will get to meet some new people in a different community.

My soul votes for the Wrangler
My brain (and wallet) votes for the Tacoma

Not going to lie, I have always loved the concept of the Wrangler. Love its long history and heritage. It's also one of the few American vehicles with bold character and style (IMHO) while being both fun and grown up at the same time.

I have owned multiple Jeeps and never had a problem with the Pentastar at all and with the new JLUR its the best I have seen as far as the Pentastar goes. Now that being said it's not the straight 6 I had in other Jeeps.
