Going to be doing my first bit of true, hot, summer RTT camping at the end of the month. Any recommendations on an affordable fan? I'm thinking something decent, under $20, battery powered, but open to all suggestions.

No, but I did just see one in person last weekend. Lighter materials and thinner design mean you can't fold as much up in them. I'd say they're great if you have a Subaru or something that can't handle 150+ lbs on the roof well or reeeeaaallly don't want to take your tent off while driving into your low-clearance garage but otherwise, I'd save the money and just get the standard which is only like 3 inches thicker.

Also, the 7" they advertise is literaly just the tent. Add an inch for the mounting rails and another 3" for the ladder. This is true of all of Tepui's thickness measurements.

This was during a trip a couple months ago. It was certainly cold at night but enjoyed the scenery.

    Yeah.
I got this one, uses several large batteries so should run for quite a while -- but I haven't tested it camping yet.

Cool I'll keep it in mind... That's the price range I'm looking for, it's only a matter of dealing with a 1T vs the M416 and M101 trailers I've been looking at.

Anybody have a Max Modular 10 inch rack for their tent? I have a dilemma with my current rack not fitting in the parking garage at a new job. I have no garage at home so I can't take the tent off during the week. I'm thinking that the 10 inch rack might give me enough clearance to get into the 6' 6" garage but It's really hard to tell.

I was hoping that the trade-in program was still in effect...it is not. Eying a hardshell.

Autohome Maggiolina EXTREME. Took it on it’s maiden voyage last weekend and it was awesome. Super easy setup and takedown. I can keep multiple thick sleeping bags and pillows in it and it closes no problem. Mattress is extremely comfortable. The quality on it is amazing.

I have the 10” aluminum max modular rack but no tent(yet). The top of the rack is 10 1/8” above the bed rails. If I had a 16” thick tent on there, it would barely clear 6’6”. I also have 3” of lift in the rear. So I guess it would depend on how thick your stowed tent is and if you have any lift. Hope that helps...E13FB93D-E8E2-4C5D-8EBD-C5CFAF5A58DC.jpg

At stock height (other than Pro), the fin is at a tick over 70" and the bed rail to fin top is a bit under 22". That means ~29" of clearance in that garage from your bed rail and a 10" rack would give you 19" of room for the tent. Fattest I know are Tepui ruggedized which are 16" tall mounted with the ladder on top.

If you go taller, just keep in mind that if the low spot in the garage is at the bottom of a ramp, you need extra inches for clearance.

Yeah I hope the improvements they have made from the Sparrow X make it a great tent. It was between the Sandpiper, FSR hardshell and the alucab. The Sandpiper won me over with the built-in rack system and honestly the looks.

I have the hardshell auto FSR. Went back to them because of quality. The automatic one is pretty cool also.

Weren't you looking for the aluminum FSR hardshell?
