Front mudflaps

I have finally decided that I want to trim my front mudflaps so they are the same length as the rear ones. After one to many speed bumps, ruts in the dirt road to work, and finally just about ripping the right front one off last night in a pot hole at the mall, I want them shorter. I am going to use the tin snip method to shorten them from what I read on one of the threads here. I see that there is 3 bolts and looks like 3 plastic rivets or clips to take out to remove the flap so I can trim it and make sure I get it straight. My question is, how do I remove the plastic rivets or clips without messing them up so I can reinstall the mudflap?

 

It's a mix of clips and bolts. Feel around the clips, there's an outer case, and a place for a small flat head on two sides to pull up the inner one. Just start slowly prying one side of hte inner up, then work the other, go back and forth and around slowly and it'll pop up without any damage. Being a '10 they shouldn't be to brittle. I hate clips btw...

Also I removed my front ones. They dig into the paint on the fender in addition to being in the way and ripping themselves off while wheeling and such.

 

Pop them off with a flathead screwdriver, but take your time when doing it. Wiggle them a little while taking them off to get them out instead of just yanking them. When I took my fronts off I broke 2, one on the right and one on the left. Hope that helps!

 

Dude!...Lose the flaps!

 

when I took them off on my old truck I broke a few of the clips. I left them off for a few months and put them back on and just used the screws and the clips I had left. I did not have any issues with some of the clips missing.

 

I hand ripped the passenger side front mudflap off this weekend. It was just dangling and heavy with mud. My wife told me about it when she got out when we stopped, so I just ripped it off. The other one is broken too....so it will come off tomorrow. These rigid flaps suck for rock-crawling!

 

I love the mudflaps.

I think they are part of the personality of the truck.

Well I got the front mud flaps trimmed today. The overall length of the rear one's are 19-1/2" and the front one's are 21-1/2" long. So I trimmed off 2" to match the rear. Definitely looks much better. Thanks for the help on how to get the clips out. Took my time and not a single one broke. Guess we will see if the 2" was enough or will I have to trim a little more later.

Removed mine after 22k and they left me a nice wear/scratch were the flare overlapped the fender flare. Take them off sooner rather than later.
