Your also never going to whip out your straight key so that you sent the cleanest signal to say "a little more passenger".
And if you think that you are going around the world with a crappy firestick type antenna from the side of the trail on 4 watts, you're going to be waiting about 4 or 5 years for the sun to cooperate.

Try changing to a 12.5 step, then turn the dial to tune, you may see the NNN.NNNnn (N for number) show up to tune it in. I have a radio that does that

Already tried in fmn. Would I be able to set it as a memory channel in chirp? Or would the radios tuning step override the channel?

Try programming the freq with that set. I've had one that would tune it in with that step set, and on that would allow you to program it. Maybe need the programming software to get it there. Usually a free download.

Change the step to 6.25, then try to enter that frequency. Your fine to listen on that frequency, please do not modify the radio to transmit. For one, it's not legal. For another, the radio is not going to work as well out of band. The power is going to be reduced, and it may get spurious. As you're now outside the design of the filters.

With CB we don't go by how many miles you can TX, we go by how many turns ahead the group is haha. Usually more than 4 and you're out

Anyone else here jumped on the Wires-X craze recently? I finally got my FTM-400 firmware updated, and got everything working on Wires-X . Now, I have a Pi-Star HotSpot with YSF, but had to play with Wires-X. With it I have my own node. I can drive around with my FT-2D on a mag mount and talk via Wires-X through my FTM-400 connected directly to my computer. Without the HRI-200 box you used to need. I like digital modes, and am enjoying it. Just wondering if I'm the only one here having fun with it.

I've also fount that you can have more than 5 memories saved into your radio. The "Category Tags" are not just 1 channel memories. You can save up to 20 memories in each category tag. I'm enjoying the new toy!

Sometimes it's the little successes that make a man's day. Got a new $120 windows tablet set up to work with Wires-X so I can go mobile with it. Got Chirp to work with the Prolific driver. Got the FTM-400 ADMS software working. If you've ever gotten these things to work on windows for the first time, you know how much of an achievement that is. Next up is APRSIS32 to work with the FTM-400 as a mobile iGate. I'm just happier than a puppy with 2 peters, that just discovered what they're for! Have a good night! 73!

I've been watching systems like that being developed. My end goal is to have all my relays for accessories have a circuit tied to and android head unit with an option for manual override. I also want to run Gaia and android APRS on the head unit. They're getting closer for sure.

Anyone have any good pictures of the ham shacks and antenna set ups? Moving in 2 weeks into our first home and I'll just be tossing a vhf uhf antenna up first until I tackle the revised general test in a bit.

Thinking about buying my first dedicated rig radio. I have been using my baofeng UV-5r with a nagoya antenna and a hand held mic mounted to my dash. I get about 4miles of distance with the radio and antenna inside the cabin but that cabin is really killing my distance. I am planning to get a NMO antenna mounted near my driver A-pillar at some point in the future which I know will help a TON. My question however is with a decent half/quarter wave antenna would I notice the difference between a 25w and a 50w radio? I live in Indiana so daily would be flat but I intend to take some trips to non flat areas of the US. Also strictly sticking to 2m/70cm.

The extra wattage will get you about an additional 1/3 the range or so. I personally would rather be able to reach a little further for if you get into a just in case scenario. Pick a radio that has the extra little features that you want. But don't skimp on the antenna.

Does anyone in here run a dedicated VHF radio and a dedicated UHF radio? Or do most do dual band?
