Put 255/85/16s on stock OR wheels and suspension

Would BfGoodrich uphold the warranty on these?

 

Don’t see why they wouldn’t. I’ll have the check again but the manufacture date wasn’t an eternity ago.

 

Only do donuts on the beach when the cops aren't looking.

So we are a couple years in, and OP doesn't run this setup anymore, and quite a few folks have had to bend or cut or melt their plastics to avoid rub. A few have also mentioned that they don't regret it but would not do it again.

What would one size DOWN from 255/85/16 be and look like? Has anyone done that?

 

One size down would be 265/75r16 or slightly taller and wider 275/70r17.

Or 255/75r17

 

They also make a 235/85/16 which would be similar to a 265/75/16 in height but mad skinny. Good for i4 I guess.

You’d only rub with 255 if you have mud flaps, a wack alignment, or wheels that stick out further than stock (this encompasses runnning spacers).

 

Weird that those are 8 ply KM2s. Probably why they were cheaper. Never seen not e rated, 10 ply

 

They also carry the 10 ply for a competitive price as far as I could tell. I was fine with c load before the 255s so I was glad to see an 8 ply d load. Saves a few lbs a corner.

 

Did most of them end up getting a lift and going bigger?
And wonder if they just didn't like the tire that they chose or was it the oddball size?

On my 93 pathfinder I went this route and had 33x10.5s on the stock rims and they worked great on and off road. The stock rim allowed the tire to perfectly stuff into the wheel wells. If you got a new rim and kept the same offset and back spacing then you could get similar to oem results.

I have literally gotten the opposite impression from this thread.

People are stoked on the tire size and have had to do zero to no modification on OR suspension trucks.

OP lifted his truck and got new wheels and has mentioned he had no problems running these tire in his stock OR setup.

 

I have the Cooper Discoverers and I've gone down to single digits without any problems. Of course I don't go over 25 mph and I slow down when making turns. I haven't aired down on rocky trails yet...

 

yeah I haven't gotten that impression either...most of the complaining I see is either power or MPG related which if you don't expect going in...well....I don't know what to tell you, and if im not mistaken the OP switched to 35s, so even if he had gone with a wider more standard 33 if he wanted 35s he would've switched from those as well

 

Only had the Extreme Countrys on the truck for a couple thousand miles. Loving em, wish I didn't have a dent in the driver's side wheel well. Let's see, here's one on the beach, and one hooked up for camping and squatting a bit. The road noise is not too bad, although the wet traction is down a bit, and grooved roads suck.

 

I noticed the wet traction change with mud terrains.

Driving in the rain is real interesting now
