Detailer friend of mine passed this along to me on wheels as I had some minor hazing on my matte gunmetal SCS's as well once.

"Something to try for starters is to wash them, the wipe down with a 35% mix of isopropyl alcohol diluted with water. (Basically the 70% mix you can get at your drugstore diluted 2:1 in a spray bottle). That will remove any remaining oils or dirt on it. Apply a synthetic wax (aka sealant) and see if it keeps it away for awhile. If it comes back quickly, it will require at the very least a mild polishing."

Here is an ask... with a pic for attention.

Going to be looking at ceramic coatings soon after I do my full detail on the truck. Any recommendations that would be good for Texas summers?

This was what I finished up yesterday on my truck correcting an incident I had with a tree a while ago... hand wash, clay bar, then meguiar's 105 cut compound and 205 polish on the torqx DA polisher with hex pads, followed up by hand applied wax and a hand buff.

I did quite a bit of research and went with carpro cquartz uk 3.0. I am doing it myself on my 4runner Pro and so far I am impressed.

I'd love to ceramic my truck. I just have a lot of correction to do first, but some day I hope to get it done and looking right to be coated. If I do, I will absolutely go with cquartz uk. I've done a ton of research on ceramic and that's the one. 2 coats would be idea. Top with some reload now and then, and beadmaker when i want that deep gloss. If you treat it right with foam when filthy, and 2 bucket washes or better yet one bucket with about 8 or10 wash mitts (dirty mitt doesn't touch paint more than once per wash) every couple weeks, and maybe rinseless washes between hose washes.
For me its just finding time to get the paint perfect enough to make 2 coats of ceramic worth it, it's all in the prep. I have a ton of fine scratches and spider webbing all over from PO using drive thru washes. I plan the usual wash, clay, wash, then try meg's 205 or scholls s20 black with MF cutting pads then eraser, followed by carpro essence. I hope to not have to go more aggressive than 205 but will of need be.
I did a full polish with meg's untimate polish last summer but it wasn't enough to get all the marring out.

Wow that's really cool hes coming out with his own product. It sounds very interesting too. Never heard of a coating with filling properties. I wonder what it'll cost. I considered maybe trying cquartz lite for a trial run but maybe I'll wait for this now. Thanks so much man!!

Edit: just finished watching. Very impressive finish and filling. Almost sounds too good to be true. But this guy is pretty reputable. I would think a even just one step like essense to prep the paint, followed by this would make me very happy. I may be sold on thos.

Scott comes across like a douche in his more recent videos. Most consumer ceramics are super easy to apply. I have applied 3 different ones and found them easier to apply than a wax or sealant.

Adam's makes some really great stuff. What did you get? Their mystery buckets are usually packed with great stuff. They sell them as a promotional thing. You can get double the value in some buckets

They do make some pretty damn good stuff. Probably a top 5 or 10 detailing company.
If you like the detailer you may like the waterless wash as well, even if you dont use it to do a full wash aka wash your whole car with it. It may work well as a clay lubricant, or drying agent. it's good for if you were to maybe get a big old bird crap on your freshly cleaned car. Spray it on, let it sit for a minute then wipe off. It doesn't have any gloss agents in it, its just a good cleaner, so you could follow up with the detail spray on areas you spot clean. Also works well to help emulsify tough grime, spray down tough areas before you wash your car. Or let's say you just washed your car but it gets dust or covered with pollen, very quick and easy to spray and wipe. I'll use waterless products after a drive in the summer that covered my grill with bugs, makes it quick and easy and it's really amazing how well these products emulsify dirt and how slick it makes the surface for safe wiping. You scored a great deal on all that stuff

I know this is from a while ago and I just found (remembered) this thread.

Never clay without some sort of lubricant such as https://www.chemicalguys.com/clay-l...MIl6q1uN7X4gIVD1YMCh1siAkJEAAYASAAEgKWEfD_BwE

Subbed now. Thanks to everyone

Another safeguard against marring your paint with clay would be to use am iron dissolving agent before you clay. Everyone makes am iron remover, I like carpro IronX but recently bought some gyeon iron remover because it was on sale, I have also used gtechiq iron remover and its cheap and works well. It helps remove any metal particles from your paint before you clay, it's amazing to see it work.
