The shift points and tranny were broke at the launch of the 3rd gen. Only now, years later, have they been improved and some are still unsatisfied.

Meanwhile, ovtune is getting rich. :spending:

Great to hear you have taken to a solution, good on ya! I figure I will run the truck bone stock during the break in and then go right to an OVtune, just wrapping it into the upgrade budget.

I have used my CC on highway and it did well at 74mph. Only down shifted 3 times in 130 miles on some inclines.

yea my experience with CC is normally fine until the very slightest incline. It shifts early and stays low gear for far too long. I've found myself just turning it off in hilly areas.

So as long as Tacomas have the drivability and tech of a vehicle built before 2010, all Tacoma owners should be happy? LOL Right....

I get it. You are in the early Honeymoon phase of fanboism.

Nice that you are satisfied with a naked SR , but realize many others appreciate and demand up to date drivetrains and technology in their $40K trucks.

They have to blow $800 on a tune just to make it viable!! That's today's Tacoma......

You nailed it. Fanbois make endless excuses for 3gen Tacoma's fails. I have never purchased a vehicle that I HAD to tune to make it drive sorta right, or "wait" for the transmission to "learn" my style of drive. It's all BullShit

You are right in that Tacoma was a nice truck. I will wait for the next design before I take another look.
Toyota is laughing all the way to the bank!! Drum brakes in 2019.....Yeah they know their market well.

Sell it and get a Ridgeline or a Ranger.

I can feel everyone’s frustration. My long term ‘19 Tacoma TRD OR 4x4 Avis rental suffers from the same shifting issues. I would try the highly recommended $175 Shift Sense Pro and see if it makes a difference. Toyota engineers were obviously trying to squeeze every MPG out of the 3.5l engine to help achieve the 18/22 fuel mileage rating.

I've owned all three generation tacos and the 3rd is definitely my favorite. Lots of improvements all around, love the new interior, truck feels way more solid. Engine and tranny work just fine for me.

Also nothing wrong with drum brakes.

Thanks for the laugh. It sounds like a Ridgeline would be right for you.

When did the Rangers actually hit the dealer floors to be sold? I think that article is totally misleading.

The Ford product planners totally blew it with the “new” Ranger. Instead of bringing their A-game they thought it was smart to lightly message the current Ranger sold in other countries since 2012 and cash in on growing mid size truck sales. In my opinion they brought their C-game at best.

The fresh sheet of paper Ford Ranger currently being designed should debut around the same time as the 4th generation Tacoma, around 2023.

Yup. But I’ve seen people on here complain about their drum brakes.

Mine shudder a little; not enough to bother me, though.

If you keep it until you are in your 70's you won't be so annoyed about the way it shifts..mine seems ok

This is asinine. Why do people expect sports car performance from a mid size truck that is from a manufacturer not exactly known for performance oriented vehicles? The whining and bitching that goes on about an inanimate object on this forum is not to be believed.

I must live in an alternate universe as I have had exactly 2 problems out of my 2 brand new Toyotas. One was my misunderstanding of how to get the locker to engage. That's on me. The other was a fluke, once in a lifetime snafu with one of the rear brakes. It was handled very quickly by the dealer under warranty. Otherwise both Toyota's have been flawless. Apparently in my alternate universe, Toyota dealers are decent honest folks and the vehicles they sell are superior to those in ya'lls universe. Cause I sure don't have all the issues you all have been dealing with. And my OR even happens to be one of those supposedly crappy Mexican trucks.

My v6 has ample power, even when towing. Doesn't leak oil. CPS hasn't failed. Even though my OR is under the TSS recall/fix, it hasn't malfunctioned. My automatic trans acts normal enough. Paint isn't falling off. My frame isn't rusting away. I have no 'howl'. No vibrations. My bed and bumper are aligned correctly. Do I need to go on?

What dealers are you all buying your Yota's from so I can avoid them in the future? Is there a black market counterfeit Tacoma market we are not aware of? Maybe there is??? Would explain some of the disasters here on TW.
