Anyone ever trade down their second gen to a first gen tacoma? I am considering doing this in order to eleminate my monthly truck payment, about to buy a house. If i did this i would still have a tacoma, just an older first gen. Anyone do this? thoughts? think i'm an idoit?

smart move. Just be ready to be "roughing it" a little with the older truck not having all the fancy features of the newer trucks (I see that as a good thing). Just look for one under 150k miles and you should be good to go!

under 150k on a 4cylinder or 6? or both? to be honest, they seem like a more solid truck from what ive seen and read....

I had a 2nd Gen about 2 years ago and loved it. I sold it, went through a couple of other cars and picked up a 1st Gen to fill the truck void in my life. I love my 1st gen. There are a few things I miss about the 2nd Gen but not enough to feel like I should have bought another 2nd Gen. Good way to save around $8-12k.

    Hope that helps!

They are more solidly built, just look out for frame rust. Make sure and check the entire frame for any rust when you go to look at it.

Both engines are very reliable, with the 4 being just a bit tougher IMO. Make sure the timing belt/water pump has been done if the V6 has over 90k miles.

I have over 160k on my v6 and its still running strong.
