I keep coming back to your pics. That just an elegant design. Nice work!

Is there any chance that your guy would want to fab up some more of just the bent brackets, plus some info on the black rubber rail pad? Also, what is your opinion about using just one set on one side for a lightweight boat like yours? Basically, just two of your aft brackets on the right side only. I can't see it being a problem.

And being in our over-enforced state for some things, I don't expect that you have been hassled about them? It looks like you are pretty much with the width of the mirrors.

This is exactly what I'm looking to do.
As of right now we do not own a pull behind camper, but we are looking at A-liners. I am researching now to be prepared to be able to bring the bikes and kayaks too!

For bikes, I recently did this:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...-bike-rack-review.472970/page-2#post-20674495

I got inspiration from the 1st Post in that thread but felt the Inno clamps were overpriced. My fatty is a modded, cheapo Mongoose, so it weighs in at almost 50lb (perfect for a bike to get some exercise effort without having to blast along public trails at 20mph). The clamp has held it well through max cornering and quick flicks through roundabouts. The front strap is just a shortened cam strap from HF (2 for about $3).

I got mine for under $300 a couple years ago, it's been great. I've just been strapping the kayaks to the bars but I'll eventually get some saddles.IMG_0437.jpgIt can definitely take what it's rated for, this load of PT lumber exceeded the 800lbs rating.IMG_20181116_084641.jpg

I know you already know, but those bungie cords are a TERRIBLE idea. The mounts look awesome and I'm jealous, but I've seen people get hurt from stuff that was bungied down.

    Good eye there!

I agree that they never give a good sign of their condition. It looks like he is using the multi-strand flat type that should be better at showing age.

    Thanks.

Its possible on the bent brackets only, I can check to see what he thinks. I have used two on one side to carry one kayak to lake with no problems, here is a picture of a similar product I originally purchased and molested multiple times, Square tube and all.
I haven't been hassled yet but it is Washington state/Oregon as well.

Good luck in finding a solution, Post pics if you come up with something that will do all you need.

    Thanks!

So you only need the inside bracket to be fabbed. That's pretty sweet.

I agree. I throw straps on as well so I'm not constantly looking in the rear view.

Yep just the inside bracket, There is two pieces that need to be welded on.. You cant see the one little piece which is square stock that is under the bed rail system.

I thought that right angle was pretty tight for a bend. :D

I looked an a really nice yakima knock-off on Amazon. I really liked the idea of having the kayaks sitting on top of the bed (still having use of the bed, without having to hoist the kayaks so high. However, with one of my kayaks being 12', I figured I would have needed to get this yakima support thing that attaches to the trailer hitch. It would have been a little more expensive. After all was said and done, I went with the overhead rack, as much as anything else, for avoiding having some moron in traffic hitting the kayaks.
