From what I've read it turns off the whole system so it's just off. Most people take the whole thing off because it looks cleaner in the engine bay. If it wasn't for smog, I'd be inclined to take mine off as well once I get around to it.

If you're going to leave the system in place I'd 100% recommend using the @Roostfactor plates, allowing you to eliminate the limp mode and code generation.

The hardware will still "run" even with the CEL turned off. So the plates are necessary if the hardware is still there and you disable the limp mode.

The SAI will run if left plugged in. HPTuners turns off the ECU from looking for that function. I unplugged mine and the light remains off.

Thats what i figured, put the block off plates inline, leave the system in place, turn off cel and emissions check.

question is, if you leave SAI Fault 1 and 2 throttle angle values stock, and have everything turned off in HPT as far as emissions check and cel, will you still be put into limp mode?

Yes, early on when we deleted the SAI systems, we learned that you have to adjust the throttle angle values in SAI Fault 1 and 2 tables even with all the checks turned off.

See, I knew you would have the answer to this since you basically pioneered the whole HP Tuners thing. Thanks!

Gotcha, I wonder if essentially running all the time in SAI Fault mode (even if full throttle is allowed) affects anything else on the truck?

The SAI system is strictly emissions stuff. It'll have no effect on other tables/parameters. We've got quite a few of us testing that out right now :)

I provide these in 304 stainless for $40 shipped OFF ROAD USE ONLY! You can make your own as well if you want to do the work. I hadn't thought about leaving all the sai stuff in place but I would think all you would need are slightly longer bolts and another metal gasket to (sandwich) the block-off in place. It would take eagle vision for any inspector to even think about looking for it and the ones I made have the same shape as stock so no-one would ever see it unless they knew exactly what to look for.

If anyone is not down for HPTuners I have a Hewitt SAI bypass module in near brand new condition that just needs new double sided tape and bypass block off plates sitting in the garage that someone can take off my hands. @Roostfactor makes block off plates that you can pick up to block off the valves.

PM me if interested. 2012 only.

I would like to think I have contributed to the community a few times :D. You came in with a BANG!!! (thanks to @HPTuners and @Hacktacular!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) With your experience and more importantly to me, your willingness to share your knowledge has solely created "in my opinion" the most profound difference in the "entire Tacoma engine world". Sure there are the extremists :D @Torspd, @Hacktacular, and others I don't know who are running standalone ecu's but HP has now brought most of that capability to the masses and you have been an exceptional interpreter!

Sure, a few of us still would have purchased the tuner and learned THE HARD WAY how to tune just as you did back in the day and still do! Yes, because of @HPTuners we would learn but who knows how much time you have SINGLE HANDEDLY cut off of our learning curve! Not only that, but also providing people with an unbelievably priced custom tune, dialed in specifically for each individuals vehicle for those who don't want to tinker is a godsend here!

Almost any engine mod is never fully realized unless tuned for the difference. The skies have now opened up for us to capitalize/optimize not only current mods but also new ideas that were not possible before!

Well, who will be the first, you our me??

Just to keep this thing alive I'll remind others that this is not just a '12 thing but I experienced the dreaded limp while out in nowhere on my '14 and also see some '15s with the problem being reported.
