Climbing is why I moved here. I spent the better part of 6 years dirtbagging out of my van. I'd work 2 months then split for climbing areas. In that time I climbed at almost every major climbing area in the US, Canada, and Mexico. I got to the Sierra for the first time in May 2005. I knew right away it's where I'd call home.

Very cool! You moved to a great spot for climbing! Funny. I moved up form L.A. in Sept. 2005, although, I had vacationed here since wearing diapers.
I used to climb. I was a hack.

    Did you climb Orizaba?

I never did Orizaba. Honestly I used to climb a lot more before I moved here. It's funny how a job and a mortgage do that to you. lol

I totally get that. The x-wife and I would visit the Eastern Sierra every other weekend when we were in L.A. Fishing, hiking, climbing... Move up here and don't do much of that stuff any more. Weird.

Prolly wouldn't know, unless you are a climber, or a twig-snapper. It is one of the large mountain peaks looming over Bishop to the west. Mt Tom is the cornerstone.

lot of dam mountain peaks out that way looking west. i regularly check GOES satelite images and look at G-earth and topo maps, but acutally sitting on the deck and looking at it has got to be the best. i get up in the Inyos or the Whites and look west, but can not tell the western peaks apart

It's a view that is hard to beat. I try to get out every morning when the sun just starts to hit the peaks (down in Independence where I work) and occasionally catch some alpenglow. It makes me whole.

But I’m definitely curious about this butthole thread. Tell me more.
