Bestop comes with a 3 rd brake light. It's on the inside

 

I just looked at the instructions and saw the design, that’s a good idea. I may try and copy it. Or see if I can buy just the light from them.

Not dumb at all.

Because the SoftTopper will now block the brake light that is on the back of the cab, you will need to have one added to the back of the Soft Topper. It does not come with a "3rd" brake light. Most people mount a brake light on the inside of the clear back window of the Soft Topper.

Apparently the Best Top comes with this light.

I never added one to my ST. I could never find out if it was a law or not. I figure that light isn't gonna prevent a rear ending by a texter and driver.

 

It’s got a bracket that attaches to the rear most tube, and holds the light down a few inches so it’s visible through the window.

 

Yes it's mounted to the inside cross bar. I will take and post a picture

 

I just used a cheap Amazon sticky led spliced into the brake light circuit with water-resistant QD connectors.

 

Just FYI, I dont think there is any difference between the 2nd gen and 3rd gen softopper for a long bed. 3rd gen long bed softopper still has the straight bar in the rear and seems to be the same height as far as I can tell. I bought mine new thinking they were different, but they seem the same to me.

 

I really wanted the Softop over the best top as I like some ideas they have. On the Bestop the side windows need to be removed before it will fold down. Not a big deal but very easy to scratch the windows then you need to store them and a PITA to get the zippers started especially if you have old hands or its cold out
Not sure about the Softopper but on my Bestop there is nothing to fill the gap at the front of the bed cap so water just leaks in there. Not sure what Softopper does for this. But overall super happy with the product

 

Here is the Bestop light. It's about a foot long. Not all that bright during the day as the windows are tinted a bit

 

Safari mode works good.
