Whats up everyone. Just picked up my TRD Pro a few weeks ago and I’m definitely loving it.

That being said, I’m looking for something with a more aggressive look than the Goodyear Wranglers that come on it... Tires are definitely my less knowledgeable area of expertise.

It is my DD with some dirt, mud, and sand in between.

Any recommendations would be highlyyy appreciated.

Your going to get 20 different opinions on what tire is best. Just keep in mind that if your going aggressive on a DD plan to replace your tires every couple years. Most mud tires are done at 30k.

Definitely understandable. Small price to pay to have a truck I love to drive! Thanks for the feedback though.

First you have to answer this questions:

Do I want an OFF-ROAD tire or an ON-ROAD tire?

Lots of tires try to be hybrids. To do a mix of everything. Not all do it really well. And you'll run tires bald quickly if they're made for mud/snow and you DD them on asphalt.

That said, I really liked the Cooper ST Maxx tires I used to have. They're damn near indestructible and a very good hybrid between Mud and All-Terrain. Don't mistake that with Highway.

Rubber compounds themselves are different between tire types. Sidewall construction is different as well. P rated tires vs LT rated tires. 2-ply, 4-ply, 10-ply. Load ratings. Tire sizes. All this stuff impacts ride comfort, fuel economy, road noise, and durability.

I’m thinking 265/75? Those are still somewhat skinny from what I understand but the largest I can go without rubbing... if I’m mistaken please let me know!

Check the 3rd gen forum, but I think your pro can fit 285/70r17 pretty easily.

It depends on how wide the tires are, if you want to keep the stock wheels, and if you are willing to cut anything.

Got it. Well it is my DD so the tires would have to be good for asphalt and highway. I do hit the dirt and sand maybe once or twice a month but definitely not a daily occurrence.

I think Toyo has a 50k mile warranty on their mud tires, but I bet they won't actually cover it unless your allignment is 100% correct and you have proof the tires were rotated every 1000 miles or something

I had my ST Maxx in 255/85/16's (33"). Daily Drove. Didn't get to off-road much. But when I did it was places like Moab, UT. Two years and maybe 32k miles? Sold them off on Craigslist before this winter and got new tires.

I couldn't afford them this go around. But I'd go back to them in a heartbeat. Most of my driving is either interstate or county paved roads. I've done 70MPH on winter highways with them and puttered in traffic. I never found a situation they didn't do well in. Except, that they're not a high tread-life tire.

    Gotta pay to play.

Narrow tires will always fit more easily; 255/75R17, 255/80R17, and 255/85R16 would be some good sizes to look into.
