I figured its alot more forgiving on the knees than a texture powdercoated aluminum panel would be, it does flex a little but I love it. I may pair it with one of the tailgate caps, but I don't load anything heavy into the bed really so its fine as is.

 

I was thinking yesterday about how to make a lip without it being... obtrusive... ugly? I'm thinking something like this Z-channel. Could get a piece of 1 inch plywood, sand down a bit on the edge and screw in the channel so the surface is smooth on top, then the shelf that came with the Habitat would just set on the lower edge of the Z channel.

Plywood on left in the drawing below, note the Z channel is set INTO the surface of the wood. That would leave the full 1 inch height of the current shelf in blue to sit on top of the lower Z portion, keeping it all relatively even on the top side. I think this would work well, but it's not easy to find 1 inch plywood... and I'd only need like 6 inches of a sheet, lol. Maybe I could do a half inch panel and add another half inch under it with glue (just around the edges) to bring it up to the right height.

That seems like it would work pretty well.

 

More progress on my fill panel. Measured and drilled holes for t-nuts to mount the l-track, then sprayed the bottom with bed liner and mounted the track. Now I'm just gluing carpet to the top.

Ok this has been a pretty darn long process but I’m almost done with it. When I priced out goose hear my jaw dropped, nonfreaking way I was gonna spend $13k on a full build out. So for first time doing this I think it went ok.

 

I think goose uses 3/4s birch with a piano hinge in the middle and it supports the adult weight not sure if they reinforce it but I don’t think they do. It’s lamonated which probably adds a bit of strength but it’s almost $400 which is stupid expensive for 5x3 plywood

 

With more folks having platforms, anyone noticing the forward lip bows under weight?

 

Mine has been bowing since day 1, pretty substantial. I need to reinforce with something, haven’t yet.

 

That’s where I am. I’m wondering if 3-4 pop rivets will do the trick.


Also, I know it’s OCD , but I’ve been wanting to flip one of my lock tumblers so they rotate the same direction.

 

did rear seat delete for fridge and easier for my dog to get into truck.

 

i did that rear seat delete and think i through it out. I've got a plywood fixture that bolts to the floor where the front seat goes, and i can sleep on the platform that way

 

when I had Habitat me and momma up top kids in ground tent. if they got good grades we let them sleep up top and we were in ground tent.

 

that does look like a comfortable full length platform, no need to open the Habitat if stopped on the side of the road in yosemite

 

This was mine before #2 happened. Still have it in the garage. Bolts where the seat hinges mount, and to the rear floor where the rear seat hinges do.

 

Has anyone added an additional rear view camera to use while driving? I'm considering it for highway use.

 

Want to do the same.... The reverse camera is nice, but my plan is to at some point put a screen where the rearview mirror is and have a full time rear cam.
