They sell those retaining clips at Autozone and all the other parts stores usually, in packs of 2. But they're like 3 or 4 dollars per pair. I only do that if I need them then and there, much cheaper to buy in bulk online

Most other trucks are modern Tacoma killers performance wise...Tacomas sell on looks and the Toyota reputation mostly.

Who knows how much longer that'll last

It'll be interesting if VW brings in their small trucklet (don't think its a proper truck but more truck body on car chasis) to the US market. Drove one while deployed around the base, bare bones but good little truck. I think they'd be really popular in California. Plenty of people want trucks smaller than the current Ranger/Tacoma/Colorado. Part of the reason 1st gens are so damn popular (read expensive) here.

Yeah it's a shame compact trucks got killed off in the mid 2000s (think the old Ranger ended in 2011?) ...but unfortunately the market wants bigger trucks with better fuel economy and that started to become a reality which left a small market for compact pickups.

I really do wish and hope they bring them back but I think most Americans don't want it, they want a full size with compact efficiency so that's what auto makers are striving for. I read somewhere that Chevy (or maybe it was Ford) is going to do away with v8 engines altogether and go to forced induction smaller engines for its entire pickup line.

Sounds like ford with their turbo-boost lineup. I think there is room for the small trucks, but they need to be cheap and probably not room for more than 1-2 manufactures since it is a small space. Just hoping some of that international R&D where they still exist can be brought over to meet US safety and emissions requirements cheap enough.

Toyota uses a similar clip in a lot of places. It could also be the push clip that goes on the door panel on 1995-2000 trucks adjacent to the mirror.
