Add a leaf help in Washington State

Who here has experience doing add a leafs? I want to take my truck in to have the leaf spring recall done but they will not put a new, or the old add a leaf back in. I would prefer the add a leaf to be put back in asap to avoid the dreaded bro lift. I havent figured out a good time to do the recall yet.

 

I put add a leafs on my truck. They are fairly straight forward to install and can be done in a day by yourself.

 

AALs are cake, you can do it at my place. Fortunately no frame drilling required.

 

Id offer to help, but I am too far away. If you have one in now and want it back, be sure to tell them, or they will leave it in the pack and toss it in the bin.
Also, order a new pin set BEFORE you are taking it in. That way you have it when you get the truck home and dont have to wait.

Jesus christ thank god.. I was hoping the suspension mod day would be soon and a bunch of us could do suspension stuff. Let's work out a day and I'll call the dealership to get my free stuff. Gotta find the right AAL too. Thinking wheelers offroad but I'll check your thread out, since you probably have one about it

 

My leaf pack looks pretty knarly. It's only 100 bucks for a new AAL so I might as well buy new.

 

It's just nuts and bolts, nothing overly complicated about it. If you have basic tools, a torque wrench, a floor jack and stands, a laptop with a youtube tutorial you can get it done in half a day.

 

It does seem pretty straight forward. But so did my first light bar install that took me 2 days..... damn ground cable lol

You want this one: Can be configured as 1.5 or 2". Also sold under Headstrong/Wheelers/Icon/Toytec, they are all the same, so buy what you get the best deal on.

 

It sounds a lot more intimidating than it really is. I'd offer to help, but I'm basically either out of town or in training every weekend until the end of July.

 

I need that big of one just for the lift and slight fire road bombing? I read that the 3 leaf ones are better for on road stuff. I'll read the thread when I have time

 

The thread covers all things lifting. Important part is you want the 3-leaf one. It will flex better, it will perform better, it will ride better. Single leafs will perform like an unloaded dump truck. We can chat about it if you make the get together tomorrow.

 

I'm aiming for it.

Let me know how this goes, I will be doing my AAL in the very near future and have never done one before. Do any brackets or rivets need to be cut/grinded for the 3 leaf progressive type?

 

To keep the overloads with the AAL I did have to remove the rear overload U-brackets. Drill out the center pin, flip the overload over on the concrete so it is resting on the U-bracket and give it the overload BFH treatment till the bracket pops off.



Alternatively you could remove a bracket off the spring pack instead.

 

So that work is only necessary if the overload is being kept?

 

Correct. Though I think there was a revision of the AAL at some point so the statement isn’t always 100% true, most will install without interference issues w/o the overload, but occasionally some do run into interference problems and need to remove a bracket.
