Yeah, like $5, but I gotta wait for the parts to come in.

I worked for volvo parts for almost 13 years and even with the vin witch is a must when it comes down to brakes and rotors there were 6 different types for one model. Bumper covers and windshields were a nightmare to look up

In theory VIN at a Toyota dealer the parts counter person can tell everything about your truck, including color. So another example is if you're ordering trim he knows to get the right grey, beige, whatever or if you need color-keyed, black or chrome on the exterior.

    OME and worth every penny.
go to Autozone and buy a box of what you call Jesus clips in the help aisle.

You don't need VIN. You don't need Toyota. You don't need year.
They are all the same and always have been.

I remember when looking at LCA cam bolts, there were like 5 variations. Having the vin helped narrow them down.

It spanned model years and made no sense at all.

I got about 100 of them in my toolbox. Junkyards are good places to accrue weird parts that come in handy

All sorts of fasteners. Anytime I hit a junk yard I grab a few random bolts from whatever Toyotas are there for spares.

Bolts, clips, small sensors, pigtail connectors, interior trim pieces, seat belts ( good for motor hoist straps). Also fuses and relays.

It's because they want to look to see if they can convince you to do any recalls so they can get easy money from Toyota.

I always bring my ownership card with me when I visit the dealership parts counter but I look up the part numbers first and provide a list of parts to order.
I was pleasantly surprised when a local dealer offered me a 15% discount on my order because he didn't have to look up the parts.

Turns out the parts guy didn’t need the VIN for the window crank clip...

Altogether the two parts I need cost less than five bucks! Unfortunately the parts will not be in until Monday...

It annoys me when people don’t know the year or model of their vehicle.

One time I was parked in front of the bar where I used to work after dropping off a load of ice. I come upstairs to find a drunk guy staring in amazement at my recently-washed silver truck, and he says I have a nice truck then proceeds to ask if it’s a Dodge Dakota...
