Just got a super buy on a 2000 prerunner. Brakes seems to be grabbing.

just got. just getting started on it getting neff bars, bull bar. wheels more.it has 234 k luv the truck, you might say I'm obsessed with this project.
A nice looking extra cab v6 runs very well with 234k. got some o2 sensors lighting but I live in rural area will address that later, have interior redone in some camo. looks awesome. My first Toyota project the brakes seem to be grabbing and stopping at "lurch" when I release. I Don't have any idea where to start looking. I love this tuck and plan to use it scouting and hunting and pulling my boat.

Change the brake fluid is a start. Could be a sticking caliper piston

    OME and worth every penny.
Pull off the rear drums and see if there is oil on the shoes.

If so determine if it is rear end oil.

Or it may be out of adjustment back there on the load proportioning valve.

Both common problems making rear brakes lock/release/act up.

I'm thinking along these lines. The shoes can get sticky with the drums, especially if sitting long time. And if you see any indication of oil on shoes, plan on axle seal and replacing shoes

that lurch on release has the sounding of spring wrap. Lots of posts on spring wrap and the only confirmed way of fixing it is with new rear springs. I have been fortunate enough to put an AAL (add a leaf) on my 4X4 for reduced squat when I put a load in the bed, I got a 2 fer in that the clunk disappeared and the truck sits level.

Can anyone recommend a strong bull bar for my 2000 prerunner?

    Everything but the driveshaft. B03A - 410
+1 - Mine has a mild case of the axle wrap clunk. When I hauled a load of wood or mulch, it went away. Try hauling something heavy to see if it goes away.
