Well, The brakes work...

Wasnt sure where to post this, so my apologies if this is in the wrong thread. But great story.

Driving down International drive, and this idiot in an F-150 pulls out in front of me and cuts me off. Hit the brakes and downshifted. The taco stopped on a dime, came about a foot and a half from the bumper. After the adrenaline rush, I laid on the horn.

God I love this truck.

 

nice good thing you avoided that man. Would down shifting make a difference though since your already on the brakes?

 

ABS kick in ?

 

Yeah ABS kicked in like a charm, and its a habit that I have whenever I brake hard. I dont think it wouldve helped in this situation, but its a habit I have.

 

If your tires aren't breaking loose then yes, it does help even if you're on the brakes. Usually it helps the most when you're slowing down from a high speed (racing). Your brakes probably don't have enough bite to break the tires loose going from 120mph-0 (example). Your brakes can only do so much. Downshifting (compression) will aid the brakes in slowing down.

 

Glad to hear they worked. Sounds like some asshole trying to get hit and collect a paycheck. They do that shit down in California all the time.

 

I don't thing its an asshole trying to get a paycheck as much as it is a tourist driver. I-Drive is FULL of them.
