I was driving home today and was run off the road by a tractor trailer.... I smashed into a guard rails..... lucky for me I only scratched my side bumper and chipped the powder coat on my black rims. I’m not worried about the bumper not really noticeable. The rims on the other hand really pisses me off. Anyone know of a cheap way to fix it for now?

You'd think those dash cam videos we watch late at night on youtube were for entertainment purposes; could you believe they're used widely (especially in other countries) to prevent scams/fraud? o_O

Was your truck hit by any part of the other vehicle??

If not you just drove into the guard rail

This happened to me years ago what I thought was a nice field covered in Snow was a pond since my vehicle had no contact with the other vehicle according to insurance and the law even with witnesses I drove in the pond

Technically I drove into the guard rail. I hear what you are saying....

I’m looking for a way to fix my rim without having to get it re powder coated. I’m not suing, I don’t have a dash cam, no insurance claims. Thanks for everyone’s input!

Too many years ago, some clown was looking down at something, driving toward me, crossed over the double yellow line. I layed on the horn he looked up saw me, mouth gaped open and wide eyed (we were that close). He was half way into my lane when I threw my car into the ditch. We missed the head on. However, I was at fault, for throwing my car into the ditch. Yes my insurance went up.

The reason you see so many videos from Russia and other eastern block Euro countries is because insurance doesn't exist the same way we are used to in the US and Canada. The burden of proof is always on you. Their insurance doesn't pay anything unless you can prove your case.

I came literal inches away from plowing through an elk in Michigan over the weekend. Get a dashcam, lord knows I'm going to now lol. The video would have been awesome.

If you can find a matching powder from a place that sells in small quantities (Caswell coatings, eastwood, powder by the pound, etc.) Then you can mix it with MEK which will melt the powder into a sort of gel paint and use it to touch up chips. Maybe the original coater would even send you a little bit??

Like most touch ups, it will not be perfect.

MEK (I believe methyl ethyl ketone?) Can be found with the thinners and solvents in your hardware store if they haven't outlawed it (it's nasty shit).

Clean off the chips thoroughly with acetone first, lightly dab the existing coating edges of the chip with mek on a q tip that will help it bond in, then fill with the patch with the mix.

I do a lot of powder coating at home. This has worked well for me in they past for powder coating touch ups, ymmv.

    Good luck!
