Clean VHF/CB radio installs

Finally started my "clean install" of the ftm-400, found that 3 holes under the seat line up with factory hole in the seat frame

 

Made a harness for my CB switch illumination. I didnt want to cut or tap into any wires, so I got some ECT plugs, made a extension harness with pig tails coming out for the ECT switches lights. This will then tie into my CB switch so it lights up with the rest of the switches and can be dimmed. (please ignore the sweat pants)

 

Check the settings on your radio. My TM-V71 has 2 speaker outputs, and you can tell it to output side 1 into speaker, A, B, or both, or both sides into speaker A; etc, etc.

Check in settings if B band wasn't muted (I muted mine since it's set on APRS). If you checked already, and if isn't muted, then idk

Rather then mute B band, you're better off using CTCSS. Preferably the VoiceAlert CTCSS: 100.0.

You don't need that adapter when running an MLS-200-M10 on the FTM-400. Just plug your MLS-200-M10 directly into the FTM-400 external speaker jack; you'll like it.

For reference, the user manual (pg:162) talks about running that adapter for external OTHER THAN the MLS-200-M10

 

With or without adapter, it makes no difference for me. No sound out of b band.

I'd be tempted to just go for a factory reset (after backing-up, of course) and see if there's any change, but I suspect that you've tried that as well.

 

I actually have not tried this yet. I'll give it a shot tonight.

 

Got a chance to install my new Victory 4x4 antenna mount today. I have been looking for a good antenna mount and didnt really like the alternatives in the market. It seemed like first and foremost they were designed to be ditch mount brackets and not antenna brackets. I also did not like the fact that you could see an ugly bracket even when your antenna isnt mounted. Found the Victory 4x4 one recently and couldnt really find any reviews on it, so took a chance.

Install took about 5 seconds. Great youtube video if you really need it from Victory 4x4, but really not necessary. Other antenna mounts require cutting some plastic. No plastic cutting required for this one because it comes out a soft rubber area.

Edit: also, the antenna doesnt point forward, its the angle of my truck on the driveway

 

That looks really nice! Do you have links to the mount and that antenna? Is it quick/easy on and off?

NMO mount makes it super easy to take it on and off. Just unthread.

You can find NMO caps for a few bucks on ebay or Amazon.

 

Just a FYI for those of you who remove your antenna when not in use.

The bed rails are a perfect fit for a firestik or similar antenna. I have to remove mine for parking ramp(I removed my powered antenna and replaced with stationary) So when I take it off, it goes into the bed rail between my tie downs.

 

alright, i need some help from the experts. i dissassembled my uniden scanner the most i could so now i have the faceplate and the motherboard. i took my overhead consol down and stuffed the mother board up in there and put the consol back up and heres what i got. the up close pics are where i have a question. is leaving it like that bad? its a small piece of mother board material for the digital display on the faceplate is resting on the celing. orrrrrr should i do what i didnt want to do and take down my headliner and cut a nice tight clean hole and have the thing mounted nicely? and if u guys think i should do that, and tips/help/advice doing so would help. thanks. also since im mounting up here does anyone know if theres and wires up there with constant power? or do i have to run power all the way down to somewhere?

 

Tacoman97 I noticed you are from NY. I don't know if you are aware but NYS Traffic Law doesn't allow hardwired scanners inside a vehicle unless you are a LEO, VOLLIE, have a permit, or are a HAM radio operator. Be careful where you locate that thing!

 

Assuming the ceiling you are referring to is hard plastic, I personally wouldn't want any part of the motherboard resting on any 'hard' surface.
Just put a very thin piece of foam between the board and the ceiling to absorb vibration and to keep the motherboard from sliding back and forth on the plastic.
