Shot in the dark, but you can start your truck by holding just the push to start button for about 10-15 seconds. Try that?
Edit: you don’t have to press the brake when doing that btw

Ah, that's a good idea. Didn't think to go that far downstream.

I'll see if I can get to the starter.

Do you do that from ignition on or accessory?

I have not tried that. I read it in the manual but didn't try before having to go.

I have no idea if this is true, but you can put your fob up to the push button so it can relearn the code I suppose. I could be wrong but I swear I read that somewhere. Maybe it needs to relearn the fob?

OP, I once installed something, silly me put the Negative clamp back on the battery. I neglected to tighten the bolt. It drove fine for weeks, but one day, nothing.... Bu sure to make sure the clamp is tight (and clean).

I know now that it had a "good enough" ground for a while, but it eventually loosened up.

To start the truck without having your foot on the brake (useful for when a rider goes to the truck before you do and is sitting in the passenger seat) push the PTS button once and release, then push the PTS button and hold it till the truck starts (Approximately 10-13 seconds). This process was tested on a 2017 & 2016 Tacoma TRD Off Road with an Automatic Transmission and still requires the smart key to be in the vehicle in order to start.

Retighten the battery leads and it’s frame ground, then jump start it with cables.

    Reset the Computer.

Put it in park again. Lock all the doors. Then unlock and try again.

Try the dead key fob battery start.

    Enjoy the dealer.

This isnt quite like that and is for a Camry, not sure if this would on a Tacoma
or not. This is also if the fob battery is dead.

Yap, I'd say go through with a test light or multimeter and check every fuse and BOTH sides. You'd be surprised at what one fuse will Control. Ask me how I know.

It would tell you if it couldn't sense the key though.

Dude start from the simple shit first. You probably shorted a fuse somewhere. Check fuses. If u plug a new one in and it pops instantly, uninstall radio device

    yeah, just something I found.
A tip for those interested. I just took the battery out of my fob and went
out to truck, used key to unlock. Push and hold the brake pedal, pass keyfob over
start button. Dash lights up, push start button, truck starts. Good to know.

Pffft, all this info is in the owners manual. :anonymous: RTFM. <-- directed to me.

I just went and tested the start from passenger side thing. Amazing! Lol.

This makes me want that meso fob now. Knowing it'll start without the battery in the fob.

Why does the Meso fob matter, at that point?

I'm subscribing to see the result, because I want to install the front camera mod myself. Have you unhooked all of the "front camera mod wiring and controller" and put it back to stock to see what happens?

Yes, that was the first thing I did when it didn't start.

    Didn't do anything.

And just to clear it up for everyone, the keys work. Lock, unlock, are recognized by the truck because it tells you when they're not in range, etc.

I feel I did something wrong, but not sure just what that is at this point.

    The key works. All functions.

When you try to do anything without the key the truck tells you the key isn't in range.

    Just doesn't turn over.

Doesn’t hurt to try. My buddy thought the same thing when I told him to do that with the Comcast remote. It only let you change channels. Volume and power button didn’t work. Yes, I know the volume and power is being read from the tv and the channels are from the DVR, but we didn’t shut off the tv, we just pulled the batteries from the remote for 10 seconds, put them back and it never happened again. I didn’t know to do that. Just thought about giving it a try. Maybe my remote wasn’t sending a proper code to the tv, just the DVR? Master reset it?

Which way did you get your wires through the firewall, maybe you damaged a wire related to your ignition?? I installed the car solutions kit, and passed the firewall through an existing plug/hole away from the cluster some people recommend. I have not had any issues.
