The grinding you mostly likely heard is the traction control and I am sure the truck is programmed to stop itself if something is binding. These trucks seem to try to prevent damage from happening until you say f it and force the truck through it.

Except he said it’s been driving fine. It wasn’t immediately parked in his driveway and he made this thread to find out if he should have it towed somewhere or not.

If it’s not making noise, didn’t go pop, didn’t make something leak, and has been driving it since without issues - it’s fine.

Can you really call it “sticking to your word” when you’re purposely lying to the dealer?

    Update!

So the symbol that was flashing was in fact the 4WD symbol. It flashed when making a sharp turn and produced a buzzing/grinding sound for just a moment and then the truck stopped.

As far as I can tell, my best guess is that I have been driving in 4HI for 5 days, around 80 miles (hopefully it hasn’t been longer).

As a new truck driver, I just didn’t notice that I was on 4HI or that the 4WD light was on.

Do you think i damaged the truck by driving on pavement for around 80-100 miles in 4WD with a few sharp turns?

    Thanks!

Rear locker requires 4Lo so you couldn’t have put it in by accident.

The grinding was likely the frame flexing as you made turns in 4hi. The wheels all have power and grip the pavement well, so they pull the frame a slight amount and then it pulls back to being straight. It’s a slight vibration or grinding sound. It won’t damage the truck.

Honestly, there is nothing wrong with your truck. As mentioned before, if your truck did have a problem, you would definitely know about it already.

In the future: pay attention to the knobs you grab and the lights on your dash. They are there to give you information you should know about.

It’s under warranty, just drive it until it a) has issues, or b) you want a new truck.

And just put this behind you when ever you bring it in for service or maintenance.

My friend... you don't do anything for five days and call it an "accident." The light on your dash was there all five days. I think you are a victim of not reading your owners manual.

The good news is you probably did not hurt anything. Good luck and do some reading!

With all the damn complaining about mpg, shifting, towing, paint, etc you see here, you really don't see enough about the terrible design flaw of the ac and 4wd controls being side by side and identical. I've switched into 4h like 5 times. Madness I tell you!

Sheesh, did you read the manual? It's a $35k+ truck you figure people would want to know as much as they can about it to be able to utilize it correctly and safely. It just doesn't make sense to me.

But anyway, time will tell if you messed something up. Either while you're driving on the pavement (hopefully in 2wd) or if you ever take the truck off road and use 4wd the correct way.

The AC button is over towards the passenger side on my truck.

Wait, do you think he thought the 4wd control worked the AC because he didn't read his manual?

    Not enough to list
People are just oblivious to common shit. Multiple lights flash indicating 4x4 engaging, etc. Idk about some people, but I peek down real quick to see what setting I am turning the AC level to. Never have I accidentally touched the 4wd knob. Maybe its just me.

Maybe it's cuz I had a 2wd for a year and it only has the AC wheel so I got used to not worrying about which wheel it was.

You’ve come a long way since asking if changing your battery would void your warranty.
