California City is absolutely fascinating. Some guy bought 77,000 acres in the middle of the Mojave intending to build "the 3rd largest city in California that will rival Los Angeles" in 1958.

This guy built the infrastructure for a city of 3,000,000 people, but the current population is only 14,000. There are hundreds and hundreds of miles of roads, and parcels of land. If you go on Google maps and switch from Satellite and Maps, you can see every single road is named and every single parcel of land is labelled. Switch back to satellite and it's just wasteland.

you call that kind of street layout a city infastructure..

actually when i was in LA i was amazed traffic isnt worse.. the street layouts were terrible. Chicago is setup as a city..

    405 is pretty bad.

You can always tell a Northern Californian from a Southern Californian from the way they refer to freeways. We say "Take 880 up to 580, then hang a left to 80." Southern Californians say "Take the 405 to the 101, then take the 5 all the way up."

They always add "the" to preface a freeway, we always omit "the".

You'd have to live in the middle of the Mojave Desert though, haha.

It's so broadly used it's evolved into a multi-national automotive tech giant that is traded on the stock market!

Yeah, that's what I was saying. Down here we don't say hella. When I hear someone say hella 95% of the time they are from NorCal. I just saw my good friend from HS last week that moved to Berkeley many years ago, he says hella all the time now. Even this guy that I work with that went to college in San Jose says hella all the time too. Surprisingly I've never heard my youngest brother say it. He still lives up there after graduating from Berkeley.

Hella has been around forever, looong before I ever heard people say hella as in hell of. When I started working at the shop when I was late teens/early twenties, PIAA & Hella were our number 1 sellers for lighting.

Then the scoobies came along and they all use Hella horns.
