How are people dicks? People actually tried to help. Once you said your sample size was 20 miles they told you that was not good.

Yeah... so you do half of what we suggest and it jumps 3 mpg... seriously dude - people were trying to help you.

You got solid answers from numerous members that have owned Tacoma’s and been a part of this forum for almost a decade....and your response is “fuck off.”

    Good luck with your problem.

Based on your attitude and math I doubt you'd be able to fix it anyway. Buy a new truck and complain on another forum.

I agree with most of the people here, check air pressure, clean maf, check brakes, etc. Take it to a good 3rd party repair place and have them run a check on the o2 sensors.
I get 18-22 mpg with a topper. I don't drive reasonable, no one in NM does.

I get 19-20 us mpg average in mixed country/woods driving. With bed cap (topper) 150 lb great Dane and 100 lbs of work gear. Day in day out. Have a rear o2 sensor bad too that doesn't affect things

Is there any chance 4WD is engaged but the light might not indicate it? I'm sure you would feel the difference. When you coast to a stop, does it slow down quickly or coast for a while? That could indicate 4WD or brakes grabbing.

If it hasn’t been said already, get your alignment checked

    Update:

Fuel pump was failing, fuel injectors were failing, front passenger ball joints failing, truck incorrectly aligned by Firestone, caliper seized on passenger side. MAF sensor was cleaned, intake manifold was cleaned. Catalytic converter was fine.

All problems resolved I regained 8mpg total.

    Thanks for everything guys!

Well that's good news, although it sounds like it cost you a lot of money!

Double check the tire psi. Each manufacturer may differ.

Just something to double check considering firestone incorrectly did the alignment.

The og owner kept up with oil changes and absolutely necessary maintenance, but that appears to be about it. Thank the 4x4 gods it's still mechanically together since I'm now under the loan for this and stuck with it. :ballchain:

wouldnt the bad alignment be caused by the bad ball joints, and shouldnt the bad ball joints have been caught by whoever was doing the alignment?
