So, if you turn the fan on, but it doesn’t turn on and the truck starts making a whining sound..

Running 4WD on paved surface in a straight line won’t cause any damage. It’s when you turn and/or bind the driveline where you cause damage.

You very well could have damage. I’d drain both differentials and look for metal shavings or chunks of metal.

Word. In the 2 months that I had my 2018 OR, I accidentally shifted into 4H a half dozen times when turning the fan up or down. They're so close in size and proximity that it's an easy mistake.

Especially when you've been driving Tacoma's for 20 years and controlling the fan without looking down. In my 2nd gen it seemed like the knobs were farther apart and felt different. Not so in the 3rd gen.

I've done it once already in my 19 just cleaning the interior, detailed the truck, guess I had turned the knob at some point parked in the driveway, went to leave for work next morning and noticed the 4wd indicator blinking and knob switched over. It's definately not hard to do, but not seeing the blinking light and questioning it for 5 days...

The 4x4 know and climate control are also textured different... I don’t need to see it to feel it

I turned my AC temp down the other day and the radio turned on. Should I lie to the dealer and get them to give me the JBL XM radio head?

Peace of mind is what your looking for, take it in,if you don't have the confidence or skills to change the fluids yourself. Other wise depending on speeds probably nothing serious. I sometimes run for a week in the winter in 4H. Specifically when our plow trucks don't get out and the roads have compacted snow and ice. I like being able to move out of someone's way when they can't stop. No problems have shown up on either of my previous Tacomas, my 04 and 16. Good luck.

Maybe a little late to keep it hush hush if if he does have a problem. As it has already been publicly broadcasted. :notsure:

Turning the 4WD knob instead of turning up the fan for AC is definitely plausible and I have ALMOST done it but realized it felt different while driving.

Rear locker is a definite no. That’s on the headliner console so no chance of that happening plus like others have said, you have to be in 4LO. Best of luck OP!

Another reason why the Start button and 4x4 knob should be swapped.
