What would be your first mod for less than $500??? I've only taken her wheeling twice but want to feel prepared to go at anytime. Mostly drive highway but want her to look good and capable.

Tires would be the first thing to upgrade. Traction could mean the difference between being stuck or making it to the top!

Tires but $500 wont be enough. Hang tight, save up and buy something that is quality and will last.

I guess I'm the only guy that voted for lights... But you can't get decent tires or sliders for $500. You can probably add some ditch lights or pods for that price, though.

There's also the unsexy things, like all-weather floor mats... Chicks don't dig them but I use them every day.

One of the first things I did was put more D-rings in the bed.

You need a larger budget (700-800) for sliders. Shipping is a killer.

    How about a IFS skid?

If you have no plans to lift it, tires. If you have plans to lift it, Ally bank has a high interest savings account, park those 500 bucks there until you've settled on a build plan.

Would maybe depend on needs. If you off road maybe tires. More night time trails or back roads maybe lights.

Edit: and yeah, all weather floor mats are always a good affordable choice

$500 can get you floor mats, tint, and a tonneau cover, but none of those things are going to help with off-roading.

$500 isnt enough for significant off-roading mods. Save your money and figure out what you really need.

I voted then saw the budget, you might want to bump that up a bit.

First is learning what the truck and driver are capable of.

Then modify to improve shortcomings you find.

Build for how you use it 90% of the time. Build for that other 10% and you'll be compromised 90% of the time.

Good luck finding a decent tire for under $500. I’d say lighting, HID’s for the headlights and LED’s everywhere else. And you won’t find a set of sliders for $500 either unless they’re on a group buy or used and rusted.

Save money for a good set of sliders. If you are off roading in dry conditions the stock tires are fine for almost everything. If you are off roading in mud/snow you may want to consider tires first.

I just got done with a weekend in Sedona, AZ. Stock tires were fine. If I didn’t have sliders I would have done a decent amount of damage to my rockers. A decent front skid plate would be a good thing to consider as well. That you can get for under $500 and the OEM skid is not great.

My first mods made my truck a better place to live since I commute much, much more than anything else. Tint, speakers and sub and amps, side steps, and a soft tonneau cover, and better headlights.

I replaced my stock tires when they wore out, and next set I’ll go bigger and probably lift it at the same time.

    Or...

Sometimes you got five hundred bucks and you just want to spend it, and no amount of logic will dissuade you...

Get your skid plates. A front plate is between $200-$300 depending on options. You can probably get a front plate and a mid plate for under $700, if you look for a sale (especially if you want steel over alum).

It's fun, you spend your money and get something cool, and you're not buying something cheap that you'll want to replace later.

I purchased my first two mods at the same time. They were the authentic OEM Pro grill and the SEMA TRD Pro wheels. Next two mods were Morimoto 5500K bulbs with Hilux ballasts and OEM Tundra LED fog lights. Just recently put on some black NFab wheel to wheel steps. For $500, I'd do the lighting mods first.

Trying to beef up tire as much as possible without lifting. I know I should have better clearance for wheeling but figure if I get sliders, that may help not worrying about it so much. Also, help me complete on a budget (tires only and sliders)

Tonneau cover and mats were must-haves and done within a week of purchase. Have opportuntiy to get sliders at a great price but not sure if should do that before tires. Budget only gets me tires without lift.

Tonneau cover, Black exhaust tip, blacked out badges and tailgate lettering. Black rhino(glamis)18x9 wheels with +12 offset. LT265/70/18 Toyo Opencountry ATIII. Metaltech 4x4 rock sliders Cali Raised lower grill light bar/mounts TRD Pro Skid, DD Fogs(pro), Ironman 4x4 FC pro lift.
I just am saying what’s been said. But with good tires, you would be surprised where you can go. I went one size up with no lift and have been happy doing that. That makes the tire a 31.50/12.50.

Thanks! That's kinda what I was thinking. Handled decent climbs and riverbeds in Borrego desert, just unsure if I dont add clearance how much sliders would help. Thinking my rear bumper will likely not make it.
