Hello! Has anyone done a slap shift transmission on their taco?

I have been tossing the idea around instead of upgrading the current manual in the truck.

Let me know what you think and how I can beef up the manual or how to begin with the idea of the slap shift.

Slap shift options in a 1st gen? I'd like it if you would please share your drugs with the rest of us lol

Do you have the 6cyl? If so don't worry about upgrading the transmission that R150 is a damn tank.. if you've got the 4cyl marlin crawler sells a bellhousing to get rid of W59 and replace it with an R150 or R151 otherwise I've beat the absolute tar outta my 5spd (I've got the W59) and NOTHING has gone wrong with it

I'm rebuilding it because I wanted to but completely torn apart at 229k and the inside of my transmission is crazy clean and no wear... all tolerances are still within toyota specs 20yrs later

Yeah, I have the 3.4 and the tranny seems good so far at 174k, but thinking a new clutch would help. Is a staged clutch worth it? What type?

Start with what concerns you have that make you think you need to replace a clutch. Check here:
    http://toyotarepair3.blogspot.com/2011/05/how-to-adjust-clutch-in-toyota-tacoma.html?m=1
They're adjustable and if it's 174k on the original clutch you should be good with maybe bleeding the system and adjusting it (unless there's alot of vroom vroom and clutch dumpage)

If the lead foot is the case and you really do need a new clutch go with stock Aisin or if like some folks that are worried about Aisin new build quality because they're made in china now (I wouldn't be) you could buy the slight upgrade clutch kit from marlin crawler
https://www.marlincrawler.com/clutch/heavy-duty/clutch-tacoma/1995-04-6cyl-1200-lb-clutch-kit but they're using Aisin clutch disk in their kit so that's dealers choice

Unless this is a race truck, you'll do more damage than good with getting a staged clutch
