Summer in the Pacific Northwest is hard to beat. So, I wouldn't blame you for wondering why - with a week of sun and 75°F in store before Memorial Day - we were headed for the inclimate weather of the Oregon-Idaho border and Hells Canyon.

So let's start there.

Too bad you didn't weigh, you really don't carry much though, 50% of your bed is dog space and Venice is a healthy weight haha. I was probably around my usual weight, didn't pack quite as much as I did for Wyoming but close enough that I wouldn't split hairs over it. Your tent is heavier for sure though

 

i took my fully loaded truck up there for the first time last October. Took FOREVER and it was SCARYYYYY!
Doughnuts and coffee at the top was worth it.

Only scary part of that road are all of the tourists. If that was scary, you don’t want to ever check out Old Fall River Road.

it was pretty scary for a flatlander like me. no mtns in Texas, but im not afraid to drive through high water though. ha!

 

My D-side inside door handle stopped returning to home position today. Like the spring had come off. Door would still open, just lazy handle
Took it apart and just wanted to pass along what happened. Return spring is supposed to have a small ramp/retainer feature to keep the spring in place under stress. As you can see, mine has broken off.



Temp fix until I can get a new handle. I might try heating the spring and melting it into the area of the missing retainer feature, just to see if I can fix it. TBD...

Between the small part of my ramp feature still there, and the zip tie, seems to be holding for now. Cycled it 15-20 times before re-assembling the door. Should last until I get a replacement or make a better repair.



Lubed my window regulator arms and the door lock, as well as taped my plastic service hole cover (water barrier) while I was in there. The mastic had gotten pretty dry and weak the plastic was coming loose in several places.

 

So I guess you win some and lose some.

The good. Did the Tundra brake upgrade, painted my Budbuilt skid plate, and replaced the drain and fill plugs on my transfer case with Marlin Crawler plugs. The fill plug had been torqued down by the Hulk and had become one with it's crush washer no longer forming a seal (unfortunately my aftermarket speed sensor still leaks). I guess I'll look for a VSS or full Tcase at a Yota yard in Denver later this summer.

The bad. So my AC drain in the engine bay has an aluminum tube stuck in the rubber boot that was just dropping water onto the frame. Some trucks only have the rubber drain/boot. Like some 3rd gen guys I decided to add a section of hose to it and let it drain below the frame. I know it's supposed to drain onto the exhaust but I still seemed to be getting some seepage into my frame causing some surface rust. So after a week of the rubber hose functioning I saw water dripping onto my carpet under the glove box. I open the engine bay and unplug the aluminum tube from the rubber boot and literally a quart of water came rushing out. No idea why it wasn't just draining out since there was zero blockage of any kind in the tube.

 

Damn Jersey tourists.

I’m seriously thinking about it, for sure. Those tabs that Greg pointed me to make it super tempting to route them where they should be instead of right in the way.

Got the new AGM installed, only had to drill out a few ring terminals to open them up 1mm to fit on the new terminals and cut off the negative OWM terminal and hammer on a new 4 AWG one.

Truck cranked so fast I thought the starter was going to rip off all the teeth on the gear...
