Tonneau or no Tonneau?

So I'm stuck. Can't decide if I want a tonneau cover or not. I had a Bakflip MX4 liked it at first, then thought I prefered an open bed, now contemplating getting one again. I just go back and forth not sure if I like the look, sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. Its just single me and only haul the dirt bikes every once and awhile, with moving back home to IL thinking investing in one may be worth it, but could also save the money and just wait and see. Figured I'd reach out to the peeps on TW on their opinions on covers, do you like them? What say you? And no I don't want a cap or a soft tonneau. Let the sh*t storm begin.

Sounds like you are more hung up on aesthetics than utility.

It’s nice to be able to throw stuff back there and not having to worry about it getting swiped!

 

I have an Extang tri-fold. I like the safety aspect of it and that I dont have to clean my bed every time I wash the truck. The nice thing is that when I want to haul, I can just remove it easily. Win win in my opinion. Plus I don't want to have to deal with snow collecting in there.

I don't see the appeal at all. They just limit your bed space and get in the way.

 

If you are moving back home you can afford a diamondback

 

I havent had the need for one in owning a truck for the last decade plus. But I get the function part and think it might make a worthwhile investment.

And you are right I'm a visual creature, if I hate the way it looks I'll ditch it.

Med school friend and the lack of probably being able to work for awhile, savings is built up, not splurging on one of those lol.

 

Im good about 303 / sealing my bed to keep it from fading too, and snow just helps weigh down the rear wheels in the winter lol.

 

I went a month without a cover when I bought my taco and wish I would have bought it on day one. I need the extra space when traveling and hauling my guns and shooting gear (target stands, steel plates, barricades, etc.).

 

Makes sense, I usually only have my bike and gear back there and actually looking at selling my bike before I start school, not sure what I'd be carrying out of the norm that I would need it, since its just me, I always pile stuff in the back seat, maybe groceries every once and awhile.

 

Thats how I used to feel about them and sometimes still do, something about an open bed just looking better.

 

If you plan on keeping the truck for longer than a few years - get a cover. If not, and your climate is pretty temperate, then it's not necessary.

Here's my Diamondback to tempt you...it's definitely come in handy quite a bit.

 

I have the Tyger tri-fold, paid just over 200 on Amazon. I figure I get the best of both worlds. Sometimes I haul things for work that need to be protected and it is easy to take off if needed. I think it was money well spent.

 

I'm headed back to IL, -30 in the winter and humid and 100 in the summer lol. Though I still miss it.

This truck has to last me through med school and then some, at least I keep telling myself that.

I'm in Wisconsin myself, so you're preaching to the choir about weather hah.

I plan on keeping this truck for hundreds of thousands of miles, barring something catastrophic. For me, a cover made sense, and I chose to buy quality (not saying other choices aren't) so that I wouldn't have to worry about a replacement down the road. Plus, the DB functionality is hard to beat, though it isn't cheap.
