Couldn't sleep so I decided to watch the sun rise. Glad I did. Good way to start the day.

You were pretty active last night, so it took me awhile to catch up.
I've read every post in this thread. :)

    Now for some commentary:

I've owned a lot of bikes, but no Harleys.
    I'm too cheap. :p

    I buy lightly used bikes.
There are always lots of guys who get a mid-life thing and buy a new bike.
Then they find out it's not for them, for whatever reason.
That's why used bikes are relatively cheap.
So let them take the big initial depreciation hit.

Big heavy touring bikes aren't my thing.
Long trips...you're gonna get caught by rotten, miserable weather eventually. Guaranteed.
I like riding back roads for a few hours, local. And errands.

I currently have a 2004 Kawasaki Vulcan 800 Classic. Bought with 3,300 miles on it.
I've had it longer than any bike I've ever owned. Most reliable, solid bike in all my years of riding.
Big enough for my purposes and handles more easily.
No mechanic has ever touched it except for inspections.
Give me a good service manual and I can finger things out myself. :p

    H-D stands for high dollar.

Hence why I’m thinking about switching out to non American. Other manufacturers have better quality and more power.

I've debated it a few times, but you cant beat HDs support. And if theres not a dealership near you to get parts from, then theres the extremely robust aftermarket support. You can build an HD without any HD branded parts. If Harley went out of business today, you could keep riding your bike for as long as you wanted.

Yeah. Too bad, but yes, exactly.

Kinda like my Tacoma versus the other mid-size trucks available.
Quality and long term reliability is the major consideration for me.
Getting a motorcycle fixed is outrageously expensive...without exception. Any make.

I only have 27,000 miles on my Vulcan, but no major problems, just maintenance.
Tires, chain, brakes, fluids, that's it. Oh, and aftermarket V&H Cruzer pipes.
Which is outstanding for any motorcycle.

The original double-walled pipes cracked one cold morning not long after I bought it.
They come these days from the factory set very lean, and have stupid ineffective anti-smog crap on them.
    EPA compliance stuff.
Which makes the exhaust very hot.

So I had to fix that by stripping off the smog crap and marbling the hose stubs and plugging the hole for the hose to the airbox.
    To stop deceleration popping/backfiring.
Then adjust the fuel/air mixture to compensate for that and the lesser restriction in the pipes.
Had to drill out the cover on that. They don't want you messing with it...the EPA I mean.
    Screw them. :)
The anti smog crap is useless for the purpose anyway and like I said, makes the pipes very hot.
Thank goodness it's got a carburetor.

I consider the above necessary mods, and not for show.
The Cruzers are for sure louder than stock, but I got baffles and packing in them.
    I'm not a total asshole, really. :p

Tearing down the engine for the valve clearance check was quite a job.
    Necessary though.
Other than that, nothing but maintenance.

Anyone know how to properly grow/bring back to health an aloe plant? My son had one and I divided it. One plant is going ok, one is questionable, and I’m pretty sure one doesn’t have a chance in hell of making it. I use the aloe quite a bit on my grandsons and would hate to lose the plants. I’ve googled and have been doing what I thought was right. Maybe I missed something or someone knows a trick?

I got rid of cable almost 10 years ago.
Have a small, flat $20 antenna in the attic from Walmart for local channels and news.
    And of course broadband internet.
HuluPlus so my wife can watch all her shows the day after airing.
Amazon Prime Video since I have Prime anyway for the shipping.

You know what? I watch YouTube more than anything.
But I don't actually watch much TV any more.

    Ciao.

I have today off. Going to work out, go for a hike, hit the dog park, read, drink a beer, maybe Bed Bath and Beyond if I have time.

    Yes, of course I'm lying.
