Is it just VA or is every state this crazy?

Inspection time is rolling around so I decided to go ahead and take care of it early. First stop was to my usual inspection station where I was quickly told that he couldn’t pass my truck due to the fact that i had the small bars that cross in front of my headlights that are a part of my brush guard. He claimed that he use to just over look this but was recently told that he must enforce it. So I hop back in my truck and head to another station hoping that they wouldn’t mind and would still "overlook" this minor problem. Sure enough I received the same rather quick response that it couldn’t be passed. Both also telling me that they dont see why its such a problem since it doesn’t block hardly any light what so ever. I sure do enjoy dealing with the pain in the butt that Virginia insists on causing with all of their brilliant vehicle laws.

I would love for these people that make laws like these to explain to me what 4 1/4 of an inch bars running in front of a headlight might cause that would become dangerous.

If I remember right just take those little things off. There was only 2 screws and it will take you all of 10 minutes.

Utah is pretty bad in some ways as well.

It's pretty bad for the inspection stations as well, as they get random checks and such. Three strikes and you loose your license type of thing.

If you really want to look at your laws, http://leg1.state.va.us/000/reg/TOC19030.HTM#C0070

    Yeah, how annoying is that???

When I lived in VA they made me completely remove the lights from the truck because they didn't have a DOT stamp on them. I told him that was the whole point, they're OR lights!

No inspection at all in Oregon and the registration is like $40 for two years. Smog check once every two years as well.

NC is the worst. They recently linked your inspection to your registration electronically...you cannot re-register without valid inspection. Dodging the law is tough now.

Utah has always been that way as far as I know, at least since I've started taking care of my own vehicles. Back in the day, you'd have to include a copy of the safety inspection and emission test certificates. With online registration, you just have to enter the certificate numbers in.

Personally, I think yearly safety inspections are probably a good thing in this day, as for some people, that is the only time a vehicle is actually looked over.

Inspections are retarded...your car gets looked over by a bunch of idiots who know next to nothing about cars at all.
