If you get it and decide you made the worst mistake ever I'd be more than happy to take it off your hands. I've wanted a 1911 for a while now. :D

I've been giving some serious thought to a soft bed cap type deal. I'm looking at the usual suspects: Softopper and Bestop. I swear there was another one, but all I could find was Can-Back. That's a nice topper with some good features, but there's no way I'd pay $2300 for a soft topper. That's nice fiberglass money.

So I'm torn between the two cheaper options. There are some things I like about both of them. And there are some things I don't like. Looks-wise the Softopper is the way to go for me. I also like that the windows don't have to be zipped off to store. I'm not super thrilled about the snap attachments for the sides. While optional, I definitely don't like the Velcro attachment for the front and rear windows. For the front you can do snaps, but I'm not sure how long they'd hold into our composite beds. For the back you can just leave the bar and let it ride. I would worry about the back flap hitting the tailgate and doing paint damage. May not even be an issue, but I don't know. Last two things I like about the Softopper are the ability to get it in tan and now they have a tent you can attach to it. The tent isn't the greatest thing, but it's only $190. It honestly looks like a tarp Bungie'd onto the back of the topper.

For the Bestop, you have the option of side windows. I don't know that I'd do it, but having the option is nice. No Velcro needed or suggested for this dude. The frame runs around the entire bed for attachment. This topper also looks the best as a Bimini top. I may also like the tab attachment better than snaps. The CHMSL is a nice add-on, but attachment looks like it would invite some leaks. The light is for sure not a deal breaker. I also like the tinted window on this. It doesn't look like the Softopper comes with one. Could certainly be wrong. Oh, and Bestop will do 10% off for vets.

Both have storage diapers. Both detach about the same way. Bestop says something about being able to hang theirs on the wall. I don't know how that's done.

I got long-winded. Apologies. Anyone else have experiences with these dealios and want to chime in?

    Rite rite.

I have one, just wanted to hear his thoughts. Thinking my 5 years of fun in it might be coming to an end.

Dang thing is growing roots in the ground, hasn’t moved in 3 months. Not because of anything is wrong with it.... just haven’t been able to get out and play.

I’ve been going through the same dilemma with this.

Still thinking a hard top, tho.

Few things have been keeping me from a hardtop: price and ease of removal. I'm sure I could rig up a pulley hoist deal in the garage, but it seems that I inevitably out somewhere and buy something that wouldn't fit underneath a hard cap. Did I mention price?

If anyone is in the market for an older Jeep, my buddy has one he's trying to unload. I think it's a 1999. Or very close to it. Five speed. Lifted with some crazy bumpers. The back bumper is a stinger bumper that holds a spare. The front is something. Has a winch. He's taken off a lot of the metal add-on parts and refinished them. When I say refinish, I mean metalized and powercoated. They'll probably never rust. Ever. The thing is maroon or red. I think he got a new soft top for it. It's basically set up for mild to wild rock crawling. I can get more information if someone would like to join the Jeep family.

I'm only posting this because I know there's a lot of love for the Jeep here. Amazing how a forum based on one vehicle can show so much love to a completely different type of vehicle. Kind of warms the cockles of your hear, don't it?
