Tundra’s don’t have what I’m looking for. They don’t even have a diff locker option. They haven’t been updated in years. It’s dependable, but an aging drivetrain that gets garbage mpg. I’m die hard Toyota but Ford is leading the way with innovation for mpg and power. My g-pa has a 2011 f150 with the 3.5 ecoboost, and he’s had over 100k trouble free miles. The new f150s are even better.

My PD is also running the 3.5 Ecoboosts in our patrol cars. I think the highest mileage on them is between 60-70k, and we’ve yet to have an engine issue. While the mileage isn’t very high, police miles are hard. Tons of idle time, and a lot of high rpm, high speed runs.

I think that’s what makes the tundra so great, the incredible reliability from a solid and refined foundation. Sure, the motor hasn’t been updated in a few years. But why fix it if it’s not broke? Ultimately it’s your decision, I’m just giving my unwanted .02 :)

I’ll give it reliability. I don’t think Ford will ever match Toyota reliability. But I think Toyota can do better. Chevy is getting better mpg out of their 6.2 V8 then Toyota can in their 5.7. Heck, the 5.0 V8 in f150s have more power and better mpg. Titans and tundras are just an aging platform today when it comes to power and mpg.

Everything I’ve seen personally and personally knowing the owner of an Ecoboost, I just don’t see the problems with the engines people talk about online. Even people I work with think the turbos are gonna blow within 100k and I just don’t see it.

Btw, I found a 2018 F-150 with the 3.5 ecoboost and took it for a test drive. The thing scoots. The torque is absolutely insane. It shifts into 7th gear while cruising at 25mph at like 900rpm getting ridiculously good mpg. The stop/start technology is a bit weird. Will take getting used to.

Maybe it's just me and my friends driving style but I've never seen an f-150 consistently get that much better mpg than a tundra. Even on fuelly it's only 2mpg different in real world driving. Mckaylas dads 5.0 is around 14-16 and my friends 3.5 is like 16-17 stock now 13ish with 34s all hand calculated not the optimistic computer lol

The new Tahoe is a similar story in my experience too it's like 16 mpg which is a massive 1mpg more than my moms old '04 lol

That being said the f150s and Tahoe do have alot more power and I really like the way they drive

Ecoboost economy numbers from our vacation over the 4th.
The drive up (minimal traffic, evening drive)

And the drive back, some spots of heavy traffic and inclement weather, slightly different route.

It could be I'm just driving it like it's my car also I do get way better mpg on trips than anything day to day. Below is my friends tracked mileage.

That’s crazy, this Ecoboost is in a 2014 Expedition EL which had a curb weight 500 lbs heavier than a 4 door 2WD f150.

If I baby it to and from work I can get 19+ consistently, this is the average for the last 2,344 miles, mixed driving.
    7F258EF4-83D0-4BC3-9C61-60174535FFC3.jpg

    And this is lifetime average.
    DA0B8918-08F0-4746-BEC8-3C9CE93B9D10.jpg

Towing it sucks fuel though, with a 6K lb tractor and 4K lb trailer it will drop to 7-8 MPG.
