The jury is out on what age is good for spay/neuter. Ideally, you want to wait at least until bones are fully developed. Or about 1-1/2 years. Some vets encourage an earlier trip to the knife. Riley was neutered around that time and at the same time, I had his hips x-rayed. I've read some things that suggest 2 years and maybe even not at all. If you don't plan to breed, it's sounding more and more like 2 years is better than 18 months. Of course, there's a chance you will not be allowed to board your dog or attend socialization events which are valuable experiences too and that is the true dilemma.

I have no issue with opinions. In fact, I kinda wish I’d had a few more conversations about the subject before deciding. Maybe not at the bar :)

Unfortunately he passed while not under my care, his littermate Dakota (sister) who my dad got also had some medical issues (we almost lost her) but survived.
This is what Dakota looks like as of a few weeks ago, her nickname is Tank, last Vet visit she was 56 pounds.
Dakota is second in from left to right.

Thank you for the condolences, it was a tough loss for the entire family.

This is an older picture of Dakota, she’s so dark it’s difficult to discern features.

And this is Athena, she’s 19 months (I think) and very energetic, some friends of the family were looking to rehome her as their kids never bonded and as full time college students the parents didn’t always have the time needed to spend with her.

She also doesn’t like it when I have to leave for work, this is how she looks at me when she knows I’m about to get out of bed to go to work.

It’s difficult to get a good picture of a puppy who is always sleeping, moving, or sitting and waiting for a treat.
