Should i trade 4Runner for Tacoma

Hi All
I know, this is a Tacoma forum. Hoping for some honest answers.
I test drove both the 4Runner and Tacoma in ‘18, and ended up buying a 4Runner. I love my 4Runner, but still kind of long for a Tacoma.

I wouldn’t lose money if I traded now, so that has no bearing. and while there are things I don’t *love* about the 4Runner, I DO love that its a quiet ride.
What I don’t love is the panic stops. I was driving in rain last weekend, had to slam on my brakes, and the fish tailing was the least amount of confidence i’ve Had in YEARS of driving.

So I guess I have two questions- anyone driven or have both, and can compare the ride quality/quietness?
And what about handling? Yes, I’ve driven trucks before, so I’m very familiar with how a truck and/or body on frame vehicle drives.
My fathers Tundra does *not* fish tail when I’ve had to slam on its brakes.

Anyway, really appreciate any help you can throw out there for me.

If you don’t need a truck, for hauling or towing, then I would say keep the 4R

 

What makes you want a Tacoma? Do you need a bed? Are you willing to sacrifice interior space for the utility of having a bed? It also depends on what trim Tacoma you want.

 

Im on my 2nd Tacoma, a 13 and a 16 and I just ordered the 4runner O/R . Japan made, 2 sticks, rear window that retracts into the tailgate. COMFORTABLE seats.

 

If you are towing something big and dont have kids, yes.

 

Solid points. So, I really wouldn’t mind the truck bed for the utility, but on the flip side I can buy a trailer.
Trim- I would likely go for the TRD Pro.
I have an SR5 4Runner now, and somewhat regret not getting the Pro.

I’m not one to tinker and add on things after I buy a vehicle. So no lifts, etc.
I don’t wheel...yet.

99.99% of my driving is a 6 mile commute daily. Backroads not highway.

I use my truck bed as a truck bed, and if you plan to get a truck. Now that I have a truck I cannot imagine going back, get the Tacoma and get it with the MT.

If you are somehow fishtailing in a 4runner you are going to be off in a ditch driving the Tacoma.

 

I have owned both. The 4Runner is superior in every way except for the lack of a bed. I have zero desire to own another 3rd gen Tacoma but plan on keeping my 4Runner until it’s dead

 

No - 4r is more expensive, no MT available - simple win for Taco. I have not fish tailed, unles I really wanted to. My fathers had a SR5 MT ~2001 4R, it was the WORST fucking vehicle I have ever driving in the rain. Now many years later, 4 runners still leaves a sour taste from that POS. Go figure, it got totaled in a rain storm on rt15 in CT, in the rain of course, but he walked away thank god.

I bought a 16 Tacoma, then switched to 17 4Runner, now back into a 17 Tacoma.

To be honest, the 4Runner is a higher quality vehicle, but I like the truck. People bitch about the new engine in the 3rd gen, but they are both underpowered and shift too much. I had problems with the 4Runner, just like people complain about the Tacoma.

4Runner handles better on and off road, and is easier to drive. Rear seat room is comparable (not great in either). Tacoma has more modern amenities. 4Runner has a more upright and higher seated position.

I like the Tacoma better personally, but it works much better for me for what I do. Feel free to ask me any questions.
