Actually that was my suggestion, but apparently Harry Potter is coming to the house and I guess he wins :/

Changed a front wheel bearing today, the job is starting to feel really familiar. Thought I'd pull some more stuff off so I could get a better look at the lower ball joint, bent the corroded stud on the tie rod end pressing it out :(. Got a new tie rod end on, found the LBJ to be good after all. As I was putting it all back together, I realised I had the backing plate on backwards. I confess I was feeling pleased that I remembered to put it on at all! So, off with the dust cap, the 35mm nut, those four 17mm bolts you have to to back off a little at a time over an over again, flip the backing plate around, put it all back together. Then... time for the caliper and I have the backing plate on rotated 90 degrees .

In the end, everything was back together on time to pick up the kids at the end of the day.

    Fun times!

I have a feeling that I also need to do at least my Pass side bearing. Probably do both at the same time. What do you buy for bearings? And do you press your own in?

In the past I bought the best bearings I could get through Carquest, and pressed them on at the CFB Halifax Auto Club. Huge thanks to @TacoMitch93 for walking me through the whole process! I know have three hub assemblies on the shelf, with the intention to replace bearings on all of them to have them ready for next time.

Unfortunately, the Halifax Auto Club is gone :( So I bought a Dorman assembly from Amazon this time. I am sure the bearing is not the same quality, but the deed is done and also since it seems I'm getting max 2 years out of them anyway because of wheeling in mud and snow with bigger wheels... does it matter that much what the bearing is when torn seals seems to be my biggest issue? This one will be an experiment.

Looking forward, If I can get access to a press I'll stick with my plan to rebuild my hub/bearing assemblies. It needs to be at least a 10 tonne press I am told, and I am sure the one I used at the old Auto Club was much bigger than that. I gather that pressing the bearing on right requires special attention.

I was getting 6 months out of mine when I was wheeling a lot.

    Funny story........

Cut my finger at work, needed to go to the hospital, truck wouldn't start. First time it's ever given me a no start. Throwing misfire codes.

Had to get dad to pick me up and drop me back off at work. 4 stitches later :D

Hoping the truck will start tonight when I go to leave work....

I'm thinking I've got leaky injectors that are draining into a cylinder after a heat soak.

Truck will start after sitting for 10 hours without issue (may thump a little but it'll stay running and clear up)

If I try and start the truck after 4 or 5 hours it'll barely run and just crank.

I can turn the truck off for an hour or so, and it'll start again no issues.

I'm going to try and toss the echo together and then pull the injectors and see if I can get Stairs to clean and balance them.

That sounds less than awesome. Let me know if there's anything I can do. Are you going to be without wheels for a while?

This Saturday, June 22. I believe @ravenlord was thinking noon or so. We could all meet at Exit 17 on the 101 which is Kingston/Greenwood just meet at the off ramp. I believe there were three or four folks who said they could make it. I have a route picked out that I think should be fine for us... Starts out on a medium difficulty 2-3 km track that will take us up the North mountain towards the shore. From there we can run a few dirt roads to the shore itself, and then from there I have a bunch of other trails we can hit depending on how much time people want to spend wheeling. I've been doing a lot of scouting trails for this run to make sure I have some options for us ready to go. Note that my truck is bone stock suspension wise so none of the trails I will lead us to would require more then just a stock setup but of course there are some much harder side tracks on these trails if people want to challenge themselves. Most of the trails I know are generally low risk but there are a few spots where they get a bit narrow so you might get some light branches rubbing down the side... not a big deal for me but might bother some. I have options from basically dirt roads through the woods to some moderately more challenging trails but nothing any of us should have any real issues with. I'm down for whatever everyone else wants to do :)

How does that sound to you guys?
